I played gungeon for 5 hours and got bored. It's too slow paced and every enemy is a bullet sponge. Plus all the weapons are either memes or trash.

although I can't really play with any speed ups, messes up my roll since it makes the roll longer. I think they should have made the roll disambiguous to speed so that you don't have to adjust every time you get a speed item.

Is Crypt of the Necrodancer any good? I bought it when it was on sale for $5 because it looked pretty neat but I haven't actually tried it out yet.

I divide the character in two tiers, offensive and defensive. Defensive get actives that helps them stall or protect themselves from other idiots and it goes from plant snare to robot cure when eating guns. Aggresive actives just ump out more damage to kill shit quicker, like steroids etc. Most of those abilities fit both bags and that makes the ability even more useful.
YV active is full on aggresion and yu never get anythign special out of it. No dodge iframes, no autokill snare. Plus it never feels as powerful as melting explosions or steriords double wield, or at least it never felt strong enough for me. Maybe he gets better with late game weapons but he's the only character that I cannot get beyond lil hunter. Well, he and melting.

You're getting full offense out of it, that's all. High base dps, and arguably the highest burst in the game. With that, you're supposed to eliminate everything before it goes aggro or quickly after it started; he's the 'offense is the best defense' kind of character

Nope, just watch some LPs on YouTube and you'll pick up the game's meta pretty quick. It's not as deep as Isaac so you'll be just fine.
The game is sometimes frustrating/bullshit with the way it was designed: portals sometimes accidentally killing you, bad RNG for weapons during runs, bad enemy spawns on the first screen of a level.
