What do you guys think about WoW: WotLK? Playing atm and lost an important guild member yesterday.

Well, it has a number of strengths:
* More classes become more involved to play
* Environments are nice
* Ulduar is a damn good raid
* It continued improving the default UI, the addon support, graphics and other such areas of the game
* There's a lot of interesting lore (titan lore is all-around well-executed and interesting, new introductions like vrykul and tuskarr are fine, throwbacks to The Frozen Throne are well-executed, everything related to Lich King is very disappointing in execution, ranging from the stupid Matthias Lehner storyline to saronite everywhere aesthetic, but he's still a compelling villain you'd like to defeat)

However:
* Most of the content you actually do is fucking garbage: The entire T7 is worthless (besides Sarth+3D on 10-man... if you were only allowed to use 10-man gear), TOC is just insulting and ICC, despite being a raid by you'd expect to be fucking great, is mediocre (for starters, Lich King is the only standout encounter, and only mechanically: in terms of lore it's really disappointing when you expected people like Jaina and Mal'Ganis to assist you but instead you brought him low on your own and then Tirion takes the credit).

Bumping because the thread is also on page 10, I'll continue on next post

What server do you play on, OP?

Worst expansion of WoW by far. All the content is casual as fuck shit. The expansions before WOTLK were hard in a more old school traditional MMO kinda way, while the ones after it offered more skill based content with many mechanics and moves. WOTLK didn't have anything redeemable.

The lore outside the titan stuff was pretty godawful and probably the first full Blizzard game where the entirety of the lore was fuckawful after the Illidan storyline in Burning Crusade made them think making shit lore is okay.

The PvP, which some fanboys for some reason think is much better than versions before and after it, is actually also the worse PvP in WoW history with the least amount of balance classwise.

* Class design took a turn for the worse. I definitely welcome classes feeling more active with more buttons to press, but it wasn't worth the cost (and these aren't mutually exclusive anyway). Homogenization is the most obvious thing because it took out class identity and interdependency and in fact caused class stacking problem to become worse (as party composition no longer mattered, you had much more room to stack highest personal DPS classes) but there are other issues like classes simply getting too powerful, especially within the context of encounters you had available in WotLK. For starters, healing was worse than ever (infinite mana with tanks being instantly topped off) but all classes had too powerful tools. Tanks became completely mind-numbing to play with outrageous threat and catch (and don't let me even get started on things like Argent Defender: you don't die even if you are killed). And while the number of buttons might have increased, a lot of the new abilities on damage-dealers actually made things easier (which one of these is more difficult: hitting AMS when you have 6s times to react, or running away when you have to react in 2s in order to get far enough?) while everyone got stuns and CC and interrupts and what have you that you didn't even need to bother using
* Many of the designs that "worked" in TBC were gutted in WotLK. For example, in TBC there was reasons to get grounded in contested areas that would act as PvP-hotspots, like farming locations or raid summoning stones. But WotLK manages to remove all of them: there wasn't reason to fight at raid summoning stones because a lock could just summon everyone inside, and even if there was a reason to farm something, Wintergrasp Revenants only spawned to side controlling WG so you never were contested my enemy faction. Since you barely ever got grounded and the presence of flying made travel 100% safe, world PvP disappeared pretty much entirely.

* A huge wealth of smaller issues, ranging from hyperinflation to professions being gutted (identical stat boosts aren't interesting, especially if BS+JC are a direct upgrade over most professions for min/maxers anyway due to being able to choose the stats you want, and besides that the professions had nothing of worth: there wasn't any desirable BoP craftables and even the BoE ones tended to be shit).
* And of course, it introduced a number of damning designs. All but the latest tier becoming instantly obsolete (due to a full set of gear required for beating the normal difficulty being available from facerollable content within a day of dinging). Blizzard started gutting classes in the name of e-sports in earnest (I'm not saying there wasn't a single PvE-relevant balance change in TBC, but in WotLK you got idiocy like block value damage contribution to Shield of the Righteousness/Shield Slam being capped at levels you could reach during the first fucking tier, or PvP-specialist specs like frost/subtletly/BM doing less damage compared to top personal DPS classes than they ever did in TBC were personal DPS wasn't even that big of a deal). And let's not forget fucking RDF.

All in all, I still manage to enjoy WotLK because even in its final patch it does feel like an MMO and RPG at some level and it does have some good things about it, but just barely, and I'm constantly reminded of things I hate about it.

that image also forgets to mention that dying to vanilla anub spawned beetles that murdered everyone.

A lot of times 1 death meant raid wipe

Well, that's not exactly a relevant comparison because you can't reasonably expect to die in the WotLK version.

I tend to throw the phrase "in greens" around when I in fact mean "the kind of gear you can expect to have as you ding 80" (be it T6/SWP epics or the kind of gear you can get with knowledge of where the good items are, like tank helmet from Battle for Crusader's Pinnacle, chest from Wyrmrest rep, weapon from Ragemane's Flipper quest and maybe even a defence trinket from Loken normal), but in this case I'm quite certain you could literally do it by deliberately downgrading your gear to all greens, even without feral tank (who get crit-immunity from talents).

>LFG tools introduced
>more focus on linear questing than exploration
>more focus on story than just having things in a world
>casual filters like attunements and difficult heroics are gone
>first appearance of cancerous cinematics
>introduction of dipshit knights
>killed off one of the few cool and interesting lore characters
>everything else was just filler everyone excuses because OMG ARTHAS

Shitty neo-WoW players love Wrath because it's the oldest expansion that still had all the casual tools they love. Actual players like vanilla and BC (and in some cases Pandaland, since it had a few cool elements like Isle of Thunder and challenge modes)
