The narrative of this games sucks.
A league of heros called in to prevent crisis, I guess, but all I do is fight other exactly simular groups of heroes doing the exact same thing? To protect a Hollywood guy's limo no less.
As for any kind of story telling though visuals? They release it with clown and pirate outfits day 1. The origins costumes did it right. Have the costumes tell a narrative.
The banter is cute, but only makes it worse. Tracer's "sorry big guy" on killing winston. WHY the hell are they even fighting!

Have a good and evil version of everyone and call it a time paradox. Good versus evil. Something, anything.

I guess the actual game is separate from the narrative itself. The same thing was done few years ago with LoL. The matches were woven into the story, but they couldn't come up with more ideas why personification of death or mythical creatures join the League so they dropped it. Now, the lore and the story is completely separated from the game.

The story of this game and the backgrounds of characters are so disconnected from the game it's not even funny. It's the textbook example of "Dude who cares about story LMAO".
Why does Overwatch even fucking exist? Why did Winston re-activate it? Why is 76 working alongside Reaper or the Mad Max rip-offs? They treat the gameplay and story similar to that of a fighting game and I'm ok with that. The cinematic trailers put a little too strong of an emphasis on the story though to be fair. I don't blame anyone for hoping there would actually be a narrative. But as it stands, it does add enough flavor to give the characters what they need in terms of personalities and abilities. That's really all it needs to do.
