I bought the game at launch, played it maybe 3 times and then didn't touch it for a year. I absolutely hated it. Once I finally started playing MM I got placed in Gold 3 and clawed my way up to SMFC in less than 150 wins.
I also have an alt that used to be SMFC before the rank resets, I think it's Eagle now? with another 250 wins. Between the 2 accounts I probably have ~1500 hours.

I'm still new to FPS. Played about 30 or so Casual Matches and then Competitive Matchmaking. After some rounds I got Gold Nova 2 or 3 as a rank.
I honestly don't know if that's good or pretty bad considering there are many ranks.

Nova 2 or 3 is just fine for a new player. Silver league is literal mouth breather special needs league, so you did well to not get placed there.

WELP. Better than nothing I suppose.
I accidentally got too many headshots in too many matches so I'm silver 2 now instead of silver 1. It's still the same, though, it's not like I can't still troll the shit out of people who can barely manage to hold fire and crouch at the same time. They get mad at me when I go econ in every round, even when I top frag while doing so. Sometimes I'll play games with them, "If you can beat my score, then I'll buy something better than the sawn-off."
I love my silver life.

I don't think most of them are legally retarded, just dumb as hell, usually. Back before they changed up the ranks, silver 1 was composed of far fewer people and I bet most there were just career derankers like myself. Nowadays, it's mostly shitters. People who hate buying armor, people who can't aim with any gun ever, people who still buy the AWP despite what I just said previously, you know, that kind of thing.
I will say that I'm pretty bad, but in order to actually land in silver 1 I had to throw every game possible and derank with a friend. It took a surprisingly long time, it felt like a genuine achievement to finally reach silver 1. In order to naturally be silver, you need to be that bad without even trying in even more games than I played.
