No. But sex appeal isn't necessarily a bad reason, from a business perspective.
Designing models costs money, so companies must design models that players want to play. Sexual dimorphism, in and of itself, is not a bad thing, but most players will not be super enthusiastic about getting a choice between "walking tree with leaves on it" and "walking tree with flowers on it." Obviously it makes in-universe sense for a race's sexes to look mostly alike, but it's not a good decision from a business perspective. On the other hand, there are PLENTY of people that will choose a sexy human female with leaves in her hair, just to look at the model while they play. Which means that it's a good business decision to make at least one of the models shaped like a sexy human female. So naturally the males end up looking monstrous for the players that want to feel cool, and the females are attractive for the players that want to ogle their own character.
There is no other reason than sex appeal, and I don't blame the companies for it one bit. It's just good business.
