Real answer coming through. The idea that Link should be a girl, is based on another greater SJW idea. The greater idea being that in order for there to be true equality and diversity, there needs to be diverse people playing/working in video games. And in order to do that, you need to find out who isn't being "represented", and represent them. By doing this, you will have encouraged more people from different cultures and backgrounds to get involved.
So because Zelda is considered "iconic", making Link a female will have a greater impact on the culture, which in turn will encourage more diversity, which in turn will make things truly equal in the eyes of the SJW.
