Can we talk about some obscure or older games that are cool but you never hear about?

Recently I found Hybrid heaven, which is kinda shitty in some ways but the actual combat system is unique and fun, especially if you like doing piledrivers on skinless cows.

Worst game

The fuck is this? Menu-based combat blended with real-time 3D movement?

I never realised how much I wanted this.
>>
My dad and I played the fuck out of this game. RPG wrastlin
>>
>>340891030
This game is my shit. If WWE ever wanted to try to make a wrestling RPG this would it.

My favourite game of all time right here. It plays like a simple Diablo clone but by God do i love this game.

Magic pengel was a game I never heard anyone talk about but I liked it a lot. Draw your own monsters and fight them against people.

Basically pokemon stadium but with infinite variety of pokemon.
>>
That box art is pretty cool.

>>340893118
good game.
the katana with it's multiplayer was op though.
Game didn't even try to hide it.
>>
I really liked Hybrid Heaven as a kid. Head Butt was OP.
>>
Hybrid Heaven needs a remake.

It's a genuinely unique system, even if the story was fucking weird.
>>
>>340894131
Didn't really matter though since the game's difficulty takes sudden spikes as you progress. Regardless of how powerful you think the katana is you still need to grind a lot for the end game.

This was probably my favorite game of the entire Xbox original library. Hybrid third person action card collecting arena combat...thing. 300 skills, building arsenals to fight people online in heavily destructible environments, it was great.
>>
hybrid heaven was funny because it had a high res mode with an expansion pack, but the devs obviously didn't give a fuck about performance. literally runs at 3-4 FPS in HD mode.
>>
>>340893324
Graffiti Kingdom was better.
>>
>That spiderman-looking first boss

Such a weird game but it was fun if you could figure it out

It has a much better character maker for sure, but I don't like the world or the gameplay system as much.
>>
>>340891030
This. And pic related
>>
>>340891030
Woah, I have this game. I remember being blown away by the sound effects, they were incredibly well done back when it was released.
>>
>>340895162
Eh it's just what Konami did. Castlevania Legacy of Darkness is exactly the same in high resolution mode. It's fucking unplayable (except the PAL version oddly, handles high res a lot better).
>>
>>340895028
3D card game. My roomie and I played the shit out of it as well. Terrible translation, but fun as hell. And custom Xbox soundtracks at the time.
>>
>>340891030
>tfw when you succesfully grapple and opponent and destroy him with a sweet wrassling move
>tfw when unleashing some dirty moves on him while he's on the floor crippled.
>tfw when charging at max moves combo to destroy his face

Combat system was fucking sweet.
>>
>>340891030
the hard part was that healing was hard to come by and it was hard to level.

I read that you can use a training room to level but I never saw the benefits
>>
>>340891030
This game was an absolute mess
But I bought and liked it anyway
>>
>>340891030

I remember renting this game a couple of times. It was great. I think it was kinda hard (or I was a gargantuan faggot). I might give it a chance again, it seemed fun.

Some of the Hybrid Heaven staff worked on the MSX Metal Gear games and also Snatcher.
The game is indeed pretty fun in the combat aspect, one of the best combat systems I've enjoyed on RPGs. The rest of the game is okay, some of the 3rd person platforming/action sections could be better, but the real meat of the game is the combat.
>>
>>340910480
What about the echo night in space?
>>

That, too.

Not just Konami, it happened with other games too like Star Wars Ep. I Racer.
You exchanged framerate for higher resolution textures.

In the case of a racing game like SW, it was awful because it affected gameplay. In Hybrid Heaven's case, the framerate was really bad but the game wasn't really all that action-oriented, the battles are real time but also turn-based, so in this case it kinda paid off to have a better looking game in exchange of the framerate, IMO.

damn, played it some months ago, i liked the plot but gameplay began stale to the 3/4 of the game.

I thought it was pretty good. I think I pirated it for my flashed Xbox Huge.

This is the game The Thing (2002) should have been.
>>
I played fighter's destiny a while back. It seemed like an interesting idea but god help me I could not figure the fucking thing out.
>>
>>340897174
The multiplayer was fun to play with 4 friends
>>
>>340891030
I don't know what was worse. Quest RPG, Superman, or this steaming pile of shit.

I have good memories of Jet Force Gemini and Silicon Valley on the 64. Both I think are still worth emulating.
>>
>>340917446
*Quest 64
>>
>>340917446

Quest 64 was an unfinished game, but it had potential. It was just a rushed work.
Superman 64 is legit shit.
Hybrid Heaven is a decent game and actually pretty good in the combat department.
>>
>>340918191
>rock paper scissors the game
>good combat
you wot?
>>
>>340918317

You could argue "rps" with any turn based RPG, don't troll.

HH is all about managing your stamina and pulling off more complex moves like suplexes, it has nothing of rps in it.
>>
Did somebody say hybrid heaven?

>>
>>340918906
Turn based RPG's have shit combat.

>use rps move
>enemy rps's to counter it in some way
>it fails or succeeds based on if its the correct counter
LITERALLY RPS
>>
>>340891030
This game was sick. Combat was sort of like Vagrant story. My mind was blown when my character ditched his disguise.

A very clear basis for GTA 3. A more important game than most people realise, atmospheric as fuck too. I'd like to see Rockstar North go back to creating new IPs.

I fucking loved hanging from the ceiling and using the grappling hook to aim. Felt so fucking safe, like it was the only time you felt safe in that game.

Not to mention, the limited quantities of saves/healing items. That is how you make a good survival horror game.
>>
>>340891030
My dad bought me this when I was 6 and I couldn't make it past the beginning part of the game. I had fun though.
>>
>>340891030
Well here's one, this game was better than anything on the NES.
