it's not really a modern survival game, because you don't need to eat or drink or build shelter, etc. it's more of an action game where the appeal is to use these random items you'd find throughout the mall to fend off hoards of zombies. skateboards, basketballs, water guns, toys, etc. all sorts of shit
it's essentially just a game built around the concept that anything is a weapon, that's why the sequels focused on big combo weapons over most other features.
