How comes the entire 3d fightan genre stands on the measly shoulders of Bamco? Everyone is getting in on making a 2d fighter these days, where's my 3d resurgence?

I think 3d is way more accessible and satisfying at entry level, and apparently new players is who we are trying to capture. You can play Tekken by mashing and fool yourself into believing you can actually play. Soul Caliber has fucking weapons, don't people like weapon fighting? Surely weapons + muh 3d realism and movement is much more appealing than a 2d cartoon wobbling forwards and backwards to the average Joe Shmoe? MK gets to be popular as a complete shit game simply because the mass appeal of edgeninjas and gore.

The games generally don't have many motions, its all direction commands. One of the biggest fighting game populations is Smashfags (like it or not, suck it up), and I know those types are down for direction commands rather than motion.

They are also notorious for actual fucking content. Tekkens come with a whole other minigame let alone costumes and modes and scoreboards and cool featured all packed in and rewarded for playing the game. They were pure joy on a disc. Don't you wanna love 3d fightan again? But any other attempts just don't really exist these days. Apparently there will be an SC6, maybe it'll be more worthy than SC5, who knows.

Because Sega is too retarded to continue Virtua Fighter and KT is too busy with their booby game spin off with 900$ worth of DLC to work on. Pokken got made but honestly who wanted this except Pokemon fans?

3D has to wait a couple years before it gets somewhat popular again.

Because there's like three 3-D fighting games now, two of which belong to Bamco (T7 & SC) and one to Sega (VF.) Considering T7 is still in development, we won't see a SCVI soon. Dunno what happened with Virtua Fighter though. Guess it finally died. Unless you're expecting another Bushido Blade or 3D SamSho, what other games are there to resurrect?

waiting isnt so bad, if it actually happens, i'm just not that hopeful when i'm still playing decade old games to fill the void.

well why couldn't there be a new crack at the genre thats not bamco or sega?

it's harder to make. If something like SG can be made on Kick starter then why not go 2D? KoF is 3D and is being made by an actual company but still looks average.

Imagine if someone actually tried to make a new 3D fighting game today.

Yeah, I mean DoA is still kicking and I guess we can technically expect TekkenxSF in our lifetime. Wouldn't give much hope to Bloody Roar, Rival Schools, etc. Gotta think the big names: what can we sell for $60? Very few fighting games, even 2D ones for that criteria.
>>
My hope is that because SF fell on its face it gives other games a chance to rise. I feel like Tekken could come in and steal the spotlight but by the time it's on consoles it will be too late. Maybe EVO will be good for it.

The new GG game is getting noticed but i doubt that will last. Injustice 2 will spark and then people will forget it.

We will find out what people want after EVO.

Because it's a shit ton of effort and money for little-to-no guarantee of success both financially and community-wise. Just look at Yatagarasu, Skullgirls, or any anime game that isn't GG or BB. I fucking hate it, but unless your game is based off an established property and your company has the influence/money to enter the e-sports club, your game isn't going anywhere.

i had that logic in mind already, i did consider it. but at the same time, SG actually went the hard way around by using sprites and drawing every frame. i think in terms of asset creation, these days it's easier to do 3d models, compared to that. but i understand the real problem goes beyond asset creation, you have to consider so many more states an actor can be in when designing and programming gameplay (face down feet towards, face up head towards, juggle states, physics, weight, etc), which affects everything like hit/hurt boxes, frame data, animations, etc, compared to 2d gameplay programming.

Other games will definitely get their chances, but nothing is ever going to knock SF off its pedestal. Game is simply too large, and the more time it gets, the more they can fix it. That said, more people are paying attention to KoF than I ever thought was possible in the U.S.

And that's the fucking problem. I feel like I play them better when mashing. And that's not satisfying at all.

It just got lucky twice. Everyone and their mother knows about Street Fighter 2 and the same with 4. 2 came at the right time and got popular with casuals like Tekken 3 did. SF 4 came at a time when no one was really talking about fighters and because of SF 2 nostalgia it got really popular.

That nostalgia is not there anymore and the characters from SFV are not classics that anyone could recognize. It's characters from 3 or the extra/alpha/mega games that i doubt any casual knows about.

>>340871753
SFV is definitely running the gambit, but because of everything you listed, it will remain alive. Especially considering they're bringing back only big names (exceptions being Ibuki and Uriend.)
