I don't even think TTYD fans made anywhere near as much of a stink as the Pretendos did when FF was unveiled. As I've been maintaining, SS haters are a very, very vocal minority, while the people crying about FF are a majority that have never played Prime to begin with and were only interested in the series because of it's '''hardcore''' aesthetic. Obviously, it makes more sense to address FF critics since a lot of their complaints boiled down to not understanding what a spin off title is. Color Splash haters, however, have proven themselves to be completely retarded and are unable to even finish SS. Is that really the kind of audience you want to win over for your products? No. Avoiding these kind of obsessive, autistic fans is exactly the reason why Nintendo cut down on voice acting and cinematics in Mario games post Sunshine. The Mario fanbase would be even WORSE than the Sonic fanbase if Nintendo indulged these people.

The actual story of SPM isn't really good and pointlessly drawn out, same with TTYD. The self-contained scenarios in each chapter were good but most of them had little to nothing do with the main story other than you get a Pure Heart at the end of them.

I disagree. I found the stories themselves engaging, but they got in the way of the actual gameplay. Especially when it came to those absurd filler sections.
Sticker Star did a great job of getting past that and making the scenarios interesting, while keeping them gameplay oriented. The mansion level was great.

I'll be honest, I don't think I've really read a single sentence of any of the good Paper Mario games. That said, I appreciated the stories as a means of fostering more creative level design. I am so sick of the generic Mario environments, and they keep strong arming their way into every game, even spin-offs. The only game safe from this has been Mario Kart 8.

I'm inclined to agree. It's not the story itself that made the original Paper Mario games good, but the world building. It made the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond appear as more than just a big obstacle course, and more as a place to live.
The simple trait of using creatures that are commonly baddies as you partners alone is an ingenious trait that breathes so much life into the world.

The average number of games per home console sold is usually double the handheld. You can only really compare Sticker Star with the Mario & Luigi games unless you're willing to accept Sticker Star is effectively 7.64%.

That would make sense if they were making a 3DS game. But this new one is for Wii U. If more people own sticker star, it's because more people own 3DSes and the game has mario on it. And when you make essentially a (presumed) console version of that same shitty game, it's not going to sell. At all.
