Joke's on you, there's no way that's true. Gore Magala shits plates like they were scales. 5% per body carve, 4% tail carve, 3% for breaking his face in, Caravan 5 Tipping the Scales has 1% for every slot in Row A of the rewards screen and the subquest row, for 16x shots at that 1%.

Basically it's well over a 20% chance per quest that you'll get a plate.

You're likely to have two plates by the end of 10 hunts, never mind 20.

Now, a gem on the other hand...

Zinogre's a fun fight but I constantly find myself cringing at its aesthetic design. A few small tweaks would make him a lot more believable for the setting, instead of a plastic model toy tron-monster.

The only flagships I've not had an issue with, design-wise, since P3rd have been Gore (who gets away with it based on being an elder dragon and actually not looking that unrealistic but just strange in general) and Mizutsune / Gammoth, who aren't even the main flagships of their entry (Glavenus is, with Astalos second).

I have no fucking idea what's going on with Astalos, which is a shame because I kind of like the stained glass dragonfly wings thing it's got going on, but Glavenus is a design that, like Brachydios, I could see looking a LOT better visually with a few small design tweaks. Reduce the contrast between the red and blue by paling the blue a little bit, replace a lot of the blue with more red so blue feels more like a highlight, and in general just reduce the prominence of the back spikes - there's no fucking way a bipedal reptilian, regardless of how it uses its tail or not, is going to have a forward sweep of THAT magnitude. A general forward sweep isn't unheard of, but that prominent just isn't realistic.
>>
>>340863307
You get like 10 scales and 5 shells per quest, how am I supposed to look at that and think it's a lot? You're just giving me reinforcing evidence.

Flash bang him or set a pitfall trap at the likely zone exit. Also it's nowhere near that frequency, and even if he does change zones ten times in a quest, he's not the kind of monster to skip a zone or two when he moves, he's literally next door.

Depending on the monster and the area, the frequency at which they change zones changes quite a bit. More aggressive ones typically stick around longer, although there are exceptions.

>>340864096
Stigzig in 3U is absolute cancer, I tell you hwat. They really improved his hunt in 4U, although part of me feels like maybe it's a little too easy now in comparison, but maybe that's just the part of me that's kind of disappointed it spent so much effort on beating the 3U version only to not need it later.

The difference is that most games don't force you to waste time chasing after a single objective that continues to change location.
Although its sadly becoming more frequent, its the basis of Monster Hunters entire franchise.
Lets make the playing hunt down a single animal but give it unreasonable amounts of health and having it run around a map cut into sections and separate those sections with loads screens.

>>340864481
To be fair, given the design of the zone exits, you'd probably spend more time chasing it if there WEREN'T load screens. I feel like the areas we hunt in aren't as close as the map likes to suggest, a lot of the time.

Also the monster moving out of your reach is one of those little touches that makes it all the more sweet when you finally kick its teeth in and take it down. I've noticed that I don't quite enjoy arena quests as much as regular hunts, as the monster moving around gives me breather periods to refresh myself mentally and statistically.

Like having preparatory or casual dialogue sequences between action shots in a movie. The bits where they're pulling the bullets out of Arnie in Terminator 2 for instance give the movie a lot more character than if it were a non-stop action shot. For me, Monster Hunter is like that.

It's also part of why I don't like more dialogue-driven games. It's like those movies where no actual action happens at all and people are trying to convince you that this woman trying to woo this guy is some serious fucking drama that I should be invested in, but it ain't.

I like some games like that, on occasion, in the same way that I liked something like Stranger than Fiction or The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, but in general Monster Hunter is like the Terminator 2 of games for me, in terms of its pacing. Action-packed, with breaks so that it doesn't wind you down too much.

Make your own luck OP
>>
>>340865283
The walking and loading doesn't even take that much time. Most monsters typically don't go that far away when they change areas. If they do change areas, it's usually either to eat or to sleep, and odds are that they're next door unless they used a shortcut you can't use (which admittedly has always bugged me), but most of your time is spent either engaged in combat, or preparing for the next hunt.

>>340865285
I never said that. If you bothered to add up the numbers I gave, it'd measure way higher than 20%. And, by the odds, by 10 hunts you're more likely to have at least one plate than you are to not.

>>340865423
Neither should hunts if you're actually on the ball. If you're not on the ball, then odds are you're carting in which case that's your fault, not the game's. The game's rules are clear. You know them, and so do I. A full commitment's what I'm thinking of. You wouldn't get this from any other guy.

And yeah, it kind of does. The insane asylum sequence before the terminators show up, preparing the car and guns for the raid, the arcade sequence before T-1000 shows up. T2 has a lot of downtime between its action scenes.

>>340865742
Bullshit. The analogy works fine. They both have intense, well-choreographed and well-shot action scenes, and they both have periods where they spend a few moments either transitioning into the next scene, or spending time on the down low to let you refresh yourself mentally in preparation for the next action scene.

At least there's a quest you can repeat. Before the G-rank Gore event quest was available, when I needed a mantle I had to do GQs. I ended up leveling four separate GQs past 126 (at which point it turns into C.Gore) before I got a single mantle.

Jesus christ did you drop out in middle school or something?
>>
>>340866338
Exactly what about my arguments is retarded?

People suffer mental fatigue when they're sat down to experience one single thing for long periods of time without much changing. This is a known fact. The monster moving around and changing areas gives you not just a difference in environment, but a change in how you interact with the monster in that environment, but as you're catching up with said monster you have time to bring yourself down just a little bit from that combat high, in the same way that having character- or setting-building dialogue sequences in a movie helps to keep all of the action from fusing together into a long blur of explosions and shooting and punching. The calm periods both help to treat mental fatigue or prevent it before it sets in.

You in comparison to me have said nothing but "No, that's stupid, you're retarded, I don't like the game now because of you". There's no content. There's no meat to this argument. You're disappointing me, here.

>>340866423
Well then, I apologize for the insinuation.

>>340866536
I feel like everyone that replies to me with that kind of message is making judgment calls on the kind of maths I'm actually making before actually putting it together.

It's not like I'm doing simple addition, here. My method may not be 100% accurate but it's a lot closer than most people are going to get.
>>
>>340866793
>"guaranteed"
Please point out where I used that word. Anywhere. At any time.

I never said anyone was guaranteed to get anything. The exact words I used are "you're likely". As in, the odds are more in his favour than not, if he had truly put in as many hunts as he had and fulfilled all of those conditions.
>>
Room where?
>>
>>340866830
That is the most basic shit and applies to almost any movie.

Nothing about the feel, the atmosphere the direction compares monster hunter to t2.
Not the setting, not the pace not anything.

Your argument is that the pace of one hunt lines up generally with an action movie.
Which is the only thing I am going to sort of agree because it is the only non crazy point.
But the entire game? FUCK NO.
And specifically T2. DEFINITELY NOT.
That is batshit crazy.

Of course now they just fly around for days, but back then I perfected the art of hunting them
>>
>>340867091
>The most basic shit and applies to almost any movie
Then why do so many movies fail in this regard?

>the feel, the atmosphere
Subjective. I'm talking mechanically.

>not the setting
Irrelevant to the example. I wasn't talking about the setting.

>not the pace
Yes, the pace. Mechanically, there are breaks to avoid mental fatigue.

>Your argument is that the pace of one hunt lines up generally with an action movie
This is the only argument I'm making, period.

>But the entire game? FUCK NO.
I didn't say the entire game. If I did, then I misworded something, but I was talking about your average hunt.

>And specifically T2. DEFINITELY NOT.
I plucked a random movie from the top of my head as an example of good pacing. Well, not randomly. I'm both very fond of T2 and very fond of Monster Hunter so the first pick is fairly clear, but I was examining T2 as an action movie and comparing it to the hunt portion of Monster Hunter, I wasn't doing some kind of scene-by-scene comparison saying "Yo, this insane asylum scene totally lines up with the way the Guild does..." because that would be retarded.

>>340867179
Please make an argument about what's wrong with my probabilities, here. All you and the others have done is say "no that's wrong" without giving any sort of real substance. My method may be lacking but the result is close enough to work as a general guideline.

I take the total sum of all chances put together and them average them out by the total number of chances, and then I run that averaged number through a binomial calculator, apply the number of chances, and look for the probability of one success. Or are you saying that Caravan 5: Tipping the Scales doesn't have somewhere around a 26.2% chance of acquiring a plate per quest if you carve body, carve tail, and smash face in to get subquest?

Or that, the chance of having equal to or greater than one plate after 10 quests isn't 95.2%?

Fucking christ this. People used to bitch in the Unite days, that aint shit now. I could easily kill a rath in the time it was on the ground
>>
>>340868531
But is generations an expansion of 4U like Unite was to freedom 2, or is it a new gen? (as in 5)
>>
>>340868738
Both and neither. It removes a lot of the content from 4U in favour of content from 3U, plus some new mechanics and new content that weren't in either, whilst still being very clearly 4th gen.

Not any of the anons replying to this math thing but that would be correct.

If the chance of getting one per hunt are actually 26,2% and that is not where he did the mistake then 95,2% would be chance to get at least one over the course of 10 hunts.

Its easy math. p = 1 - (1-x)^n
Where x is the probability of getting one for one hunt and n is the number of hunts.

What I do is average together the total sum of all chances by the total number of chances, and then I run the average by the total number through this:

Is the averaging poor form? Is there anything particularly wrong about using that calculator?

I would have to know exactly how quest rewards work in monster hunter for it to comment on that.

But I found this
www.desiresensor.com

Does not seem to take in specific quest rewards into account so maybe that is where the deviation is from.

Quest rewards work thusly:

Each quest has its own reward pool, regardless of what you're hunting, although coloured by it.

There's:
>Row A
>Row B
>Wound/Capture
>Subquest

Each of these rows has eight slots. Row A is main rewards. Row B is bonus rewards, though typically of lower quality. Wound/capture only fills in when you break shit with the chances filling in depending on what you broke, and/or capture the monster instead of slaying it (two rewards from the monster's "capture" reward pool, unless you're using an armour skill that boosts it to three). Subquest has its own pool and can be considered Row C, but you need to fulfill a certain requirement to access it.

When you look up Caravan 5: Tipping the Scales, it has a 1% chance for a Gore Magala Plate in Row A, and a 1% chance for a Gore Magala Plate in Subquest if you break the monster's feelers. That's 1% per slot.

When killing Gore Magala to carve it, you get three chances at its carve pool, which has 5% for the Plate. When you cut off and carve its tail before killing it, you get one chance at its tail pool, which is 4%. When you smash its face in (regardless of whether you break its feelers, scarring its face is a separate break), you get a 3% chance for a plate in the wound section.

If all of these are fulfilled, then the total sum of the chances is 38 over 21 individual chances. I average that out to 1.8% per individual chance, then run through the calculator.

Make sure to do the quest "Tipping the Scales." This unlocks the ability to trade Najarala parts for Cenataur (a monster not in the game,) parts with the Wycoon (the little dude with the turban in your caravan.

Then make the set...

Cenataur Helm
Gore Magala Chest
Cenataur Gloves
Gore Magala Waist
Cenataur Greaves

This will give you "Sharpness +1" which upgrades your weapon to the next level of sharpness. Sometimes it gives weapons with green sharpness a much larger band of green sharpness before it turns to yellow and you need to use a whetstone, sometimes it bumps a weapon up to blue sharpness, or even white.

The advantage of this is that it makes your weapons do more damage in that higher sharpness color, and some monsters have parts on them that are hard and need a higher sharpness weapon to not bounce off of that part.
