Every Atelier game is the worst until the next one comes out, according to the fanbase.
The truth is that, with some exceptions, games in this series vary a lot based on your personal taste. Judge it yourself.

This. Even the first two games are wildly different in their focuses in many ways.
Rorona focuses on improving your alchemy shop with a side of adventuring just outside of Arland when needed while Totori has you running all over a map that keeps getting larger as the game progresses.

Do items not automatically refill when you get back to town like in dusk anymore? Limited uses for everything?
And does despair difficulty give you more exp or money?
