If a character doesn't have a canon name I just use my real name. Or if characters have Japanese names, I try and think of a normal sounding Japanese name, or something cheeky like Hiro.
Back when i first played Breath of Fire III I realized halfway through that I fucked up when entering Ryu's name somehow because every time his name appeared there would be an awkward space between his name and whatever word appeared before it in dialogue. I don't know how I did it, but once I realized it I was kinda bothered by it
