Has anyone tried this recently? it has a very low score review on steam, but it seems it's mostly people angry at EQ next being cancelled and losing their founder's pack money, the positive reviews praise it's building tools inmensely.
It's only $9.99 but I'm on the fence since I imagine it's just an unfinished mess with no content, but maybe it's actually a fun builder that could last me more than 20-50 hours?

I wouldn't denounce the reviews so quickly. There are some quality reviews of the game on steam and I think you should hear them out.

Don't know. Game was supposed to be F2P, though being B2P is a plus in my books. Then again, designing game economy for F2P is going to leave it's mark as I'm pretty sure there's cash shop and tons of grinding.

This was a beta of sorts for their mainline mmo. Well, their mainline mmo got canceled and they're hawking this beta as a last ditch effort to recoup money.

I played it starting on it's initial release a couple years ago and spent many many months in it. I have not played it for over a year so I can't comment on recent bits but in general it's amazing yet shortsighted.
The building system is incredible, the greatest I've ever seen in a video game, by using a mountain of techniques you can mold voxels into any shape, angle, or design you want and basically the limit of your designs is nothing more than your imagination. The rest of the game left a lot to be desired though. Originally it was going to be a lead in game to EQN where people would design and create things in Landmark then port them into EQN, now that EQN is dead I have no idea what their plans for Landmark are.

Landmark was never cancelled, Everquest Next was cancelled.
Landmark has been in pay to play beta since early 2014.
