Pretty much, or just low standards. People who wish they were into obscure games tend to trot it out as some thing only real "gamers" get, which is obnoxious for a different plethora of reasons.

Spotted the tumblr user with over 1000 confirmed fanart pictures of Undertale, posting from xir Asriel fursuit.

I have 2 associates who use tumblr regularly. They send each other tumbles(?) of pokemon and jokes, so naturally when undetale came out I assumed they would just constantly be talking about it.
They both tried it as it was spammed there by its fans as well as everywhere else on the internet, but they both said they couldn't get into it. One said the writing made him cringe and the other said the visuals and combat were just unpleasant to look at.
They gained a lot of respect from me that day. We all agreed the music was kinda fun.

KH was pretty bad for a time. I guess the time between main games really toned it down.
