Never really played Men of War, the amount of micromanagement you can do in that game looks a bit too autismo for me.
And.... that's about it when it comes to good modern strategy WW2 games (inb4 implications) There are also some oldies but goodies like the Close Combat and Blitzkrieg series I guess.

wow, i remember seeing it on a laptop with an i3 once. Everything was ok, until ships went out to sea and would randomly sink. Crashing the game with those black hole things was also pretty cool though
I'm seconding All Quiet on the Western Front for WWI books.
Also any of the /gsg/ games are fun 'historical' strategy games. Not purely RTS but they're fun.

If you wanna dip into World War 1, I'd definitely recommend listening to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History series on it.
And after, get into his Mongols series. The mongols were so insane, I still can't believe the shit they got into.
