Why bother putting the RPG elements in but then not letting players roleplay? You're just pushing them closer to a linear build that they have to follow, in which case it just becomes going through the motions- might as well leave the shop out of it entirely at that rate.
I played a lot of Hero Defense- style maps in WC3 before moving to ASSFAGGOTS proper, and one of the great things was that the developers could be assed making sure the heroes were all roughly useful and interesting, but they didn't give a fuck what you did with your build.
Playing heroes/champions in stupid ways is heaps of fun.

The differences between high rank and low rank in dota 2 are:
-People no longer do outstandingly retarded things
-Actually communication
-Play in stacks
-Play captain's mode
-Know how to draft in captain's mode
-Adhere better to optimal strategies
"Low rank" in dota 2 is a level of game understanding that would be equivalent to "doesn't know all the controls" in other games. It's an overcomplicated clusterfuck that doesn't possess enough depth for it to be worth it.

Very few champs focus on it now, but Teemo giving sight and slows across the jungle is pretty powerful. It makes ganking a smart Teemo near impossible and makes going into your own jungle risky.
He isn't top tier by any means, but I find him very useful but of course, it means you are lacking a tank. He also aint a good teamfighter.
