I think we just recently learned about a cancelled PD concept that was being shat out by the guy responsible for Bad Fur Day
He wanted to do a 180 from the green noobie Joanna in PDZ and have her do the whole dark, gritty veteran haunted by the people she killed angle and it generally sounds awful, plus the talk about it includes the phrase "intricately detailed plot leaving the player constantly second guessing" which means it would have been complete ass, and Joanna Dies cliffhanger ending

One of the !!!BIG TWISTS!!! was that one of your teammates through the game was actually Mr. Blonde in disguise. At the end of the game, Mr Blonde would reveal himself, and Joanna would blow smoke in his face as he leaves Joanna to die on an alien planet, literally riding off in a Maian vessel.
In the years between PD64 and Core, apparently the whole Skedar race had nearly died off, which was retarded in itself. The whole god damn point of having to kill the skedar leader was that straight up war with the Skedar was infeasible if not impossible; they had to get the Skedar to surrender. And then after surrendering, they just sort of start dying off on their own and then they begin to chill out with the Maians and together they decide to betray humanity because it would be funny
This is the kind of shit that happens when you write with the specific goal in mind of having SICK TWISTS AND TURNS instead of just having them come on their own. They had their arbitrary PLOT TWIST quota and came up with any possible bullshit they could to satisfy it
