Why is it so common to see V as the melee key?
Why would you ever want to set that to a key that you have move your fingers from W,A,S,D to press? Trying to press it now, I can't even keep my middle finger on the W to use it. In any situation where I'd want to punch something, I would have to stop moving, which should be the last thing you'd want to do if you're getting that close.

Not for something like Crouch.
Put related functions on the same hand. All movement possibilities like Crouch, Prone, Run, Walk, Jump on the left hand.
If it's a shooter, the mouse better have ALL of the functions of a gun as buttons on the mouse. Aiming, Zooming, Alt. Fire, and if there's a melee attack, I prefer on the mouse so the right hand is all "attack" functions.

It's fucking simple. Put your index finger on C, middle finger on D, ring finger on W, and your pinky finger on A. It's seriously not that complicated. While using CTRL is still clearly the superior option, you can 100% still comfortably control your character while holding C.
