Who is stupid enough to give Chris Roberts money.

Just look at his history in game development and all the red flags rise up.

Completely baffles me why people sink tons of money into it though.

For the same reason that people are upset over how people spend their money; they're retarded.

Just like most of /v/.
>>
>>340754584
It's not about that they spend their money in.

It's about voting with your wallet. If people sink money into this, other devs catch on and do the same thing.

At the end, money is provided but no product is delivered

>>
>>340754584
You seriously don't see a problem with people spending literally THOUSANDS of dollars on a single ITEM in a game?

Like, at that point it's a legitimate problem.
>>
I'm glad people are giving him money so I don't have to. if he makes a game then I'll buy it. if not then no skin off my dick
>>
>>340755101

First of all, citation instead of reaction image.
But secondly
>In the unlikely event
That would be proving your account somehow mangles everything making it useless, the game client refuses to work, and anything CS can try to do also somehow gets mangled in the process, so you literally can't use what you paid money for to play the game in like 3 or 4 different ways that simply cannot happen without EVERYONE losing out, forever and ever.

Which would be some unimaginable unforeseeable colossal fuckup that devolves from the current state of the game.

jesus.

I mean, I have difficulty justifying Director's commentary DLC, or $100 special editions. who in the right minds can afford that and actually wants that
>>
>>340755467

Just noticed
>unearned
Basically, if I got this right, if for example a game license doesn't redeem for whatever reason beyond your control, you can claim a refund on the game, but you keep everything else and cannot be refunded it e.g. ships and bonuses.
And even then CS would just activate your account instead so you get it as the rest of your items would be worthless without it.
>>
>>340755279
People are willing to do it and it funds the game. You can buy it for 30 bucks if you want
>>
>>340754516
Yet I have a ton of those ships and I only paid $30 for the base game :^)

You'll be able to get those ships within the first month of playing easy.
>>
>>340756014

>>
>>340756117

>>
>>340756117

At the least the development of the game has benefited massively from it.

I've got like $500 in the game, Rear Admiral, a M50, and a Khartu-al, no reason to try to get a refund for that. If I wasn't willing to part with it permanently I wouldn't have put the money in in the first place. If it's good, I'll get to brag and enjoy my three LTI ships, if it's shit or never comes out, I'll just shrug it off and go about my day.

Seriously though, guys, never donate/lend money or time unless you can afford to never see it again.

>Heard about some of the ridiculous goals they set for themselves like going to planets and having an FPS battle mode
>Realized their ambition overrode their idea of good game design 10 to 1
>Didn't back it because it broke kickstarter/early access rule number 2: Don't back anything if its goals are unrealistic
>That was 3 years ago and they're still not past super simple demos and selling 3d models of ships

The last time I dodged a bullet I'm this proud of was Mighty Number 9. I'm glad I have the 3 tiered system of kickstarter/early access red flags. Only been burned by a kickstarter once in the 12 I've now backed and still have yet to get an Early Access I regret.

>And i complained about Egosoft and X-Rebirth, dear god. At least, they forked out a game to play.

Egosoft can't be said to be cons. X:R shows a lot of ambition that just fell flat on its face with walking in stations being way too big of a task for such a small team etc., and it doesn't help that it was essentially a failed console game.

At least they wanted to and tried to deliver a good game. I'm quite certain that Egosoft is not doing so great financially, and so I honestly sympathise with them for taking on such a big project and having to scramble to salvage it.

Never buy early access games unless you're 100% sure they will be good. NEVER back a crowdfunding project and NEVER pre-order a game, especially if it's shilling with a ton of bonuses because that just means they're not confident that the game will sell on its merit.

I'm a big fan of X3, havent played Rebirth after I heard how shit it was.

the thing is, the game wasnt developped by the exact same team that made previous X games.

the 'good' team then released a huge patch for Rebirth that , as I've heard, fixes a lot of things in the game and adds new stuff. I heard Rebirth now is very different from the first version, unfortunately no one knows about it.
I still havent bought it tho, but it might be worth a try now.

That's mostly just a meme. That "B-Team" shit got out of hand around that time with DS2.

They have improved it a good deal, just like they did with all their previous games. The issue is though that unlike the other games that could be patched up into a good game, this game is just fundamentally flawed. That focus on story even though the story is as bad as ever (which is a damn shame because they COULD make a fun story if anyone on the team could write for half a damn), that really lame station idea, and that just lack of races and content.

This whole Star Citizen thing has made me realise why Freelancer was cut off in development time by Microsoft. Freelancer is a pretty decent game, but wasn't even close to what was promised in an E3 trailer.

The problem is, if it was given the development time to make all those promises, we'd never see the game at all. Chris Roberts is literally incapable of managing a video game project and if he's left to do as he wishes, which is the case now, the game will never, ever come out.
>>
This game was doomed from the beginning. In a kickstarter projectz, especially this big, people want updates and cool shit every month.

Which forced the devs to quickly develop "playable" stuff instead of focusing on the big picture. You dont build a universe by making one part well polished, release it, and then move on to the next part. You build it somewhat simultaniously, make sure it works together, and polish it at the very end. Which couldnt work because if they didnt release something in a while, people would start bitching.

Consequently they're the first to cry about pirates or anyone not playing with carebear gloves. Chris would be fucking stupid to not take their money but they have extremely unrealistic expectations about what encompasses the scope of the game. The scope is still pretty fucking big though.

The larger majority of backers are in the lower game package tiers with a basic starting ship and both portions of the game.

Just something about the way they speak, the atmosphere of all their "community videos", the way their pledge system is set up, the culture of it all, it just feels really... strange and not similar at all to any other game developer I've ever seen. >>
>>340782739
But that's because Destiny flatout admitted that the bulk of it was reserved for marketing the game, as opposed to building all three planned titles.

The point is that Activision, one of the major publishers in gaming in this day and age, used all kinds of research and metrics to determine that an FPS series would be worth investing into. These are the same kind of publishers that have constantly denied space games due to how weak their profit rates tend to be. Star Citizen is a horrible investment at this point, since it doesn't even seem to be close to meeting the 2016 deadline for Squadron 42, and the continued development and maintanence fees would just jack the price up even further.

Y'know I had hopes this faggot would come through with his dysfunctional fuckery

So I could see Goonsquad stir Eve Online tiers of shit up by Stealing fucking Frigates, or Carriers from 40 man player crews.

That shit would've been fucking glorious.

>>can't sue them
>>no refunds
>>they can ban you for any reason and never give you a refund
This is standard fare for video game / service licenses.

>>they can end up delivering whatever they like with no guarantee it's what you backed
>>they are under no obligation to deliver the game
And this is standard fare for crowdfunded games.

There's nothing new here. There's nothing here to suggest they won't give a user a refund based on these terms either.

No those are still in the 200k range, but the price is kinda up in the air. the New thing they're trying to do is weather balloon style flights into the upper stratosphere.

It's so sad, isn't it Derek? You stick your neck out in order to warn and protect consumers, and the Star Citizen fans drag your name through the mud in response. Star Citizen cultists are basically Scientologists. Your name will be vindicated in the end. We'll all know who warned us to get a refund when CiG starts shitting the bed and Croberts bails out.
>>
>>340795684
How's that peak of 5 players, Derek?

Nah he did that to himself a long time ago. People would have been much more willing to listen to him if he wasn't a notorious sheister to begin with.

Shit RSI probably got the idea from his space """"games""""" to begin with.

Now that this game has failed as I predicted, can I get an apology from the Shitizen mod of /vg/ who banned me thirty times in the past two years for criticizing the game (while not actually breaking any rules)?

development was too open for people. they couldn't handle it. that's why we haven't seen even one second of SQ42, which they still claim is coming out in five months, and why they had to skip E3 even though their office in Santa Monica is literally five minutes away.

>Anyone else getting really strong cult-vibes from the whole star citizen thing?

The first time I laughed about a blown (self-imposed) release date and had thirty people call me Derek Smart was the moment I realized that the people who sunk tens of thousands of $$$ into this game are all severely mentally ill. It pretty much is a cult of personality. The funniest part is that Chris Roberts has negative charisma and inspires zero confidence among people with the faintest hint of common sense.
