the thing is it looks well....boring. theres no variation in the 2d platforming. its just duck shoot jump duck shoot jump. you dont even get anything from killing enemies. looks like a total time filler.

now its been 2 years with several delays and i cant help but feel they delayed it so much so they can add these 2d platforming levels. which look mediocre at best.

the boss gameplay looks great though and im still really exited. just wish it would come out.

as a fan of classic cartoons there is a pretty big fucking issue

The abberation is just one problem of many, they keep pushing that they wanted an accurate classical 30s look but they put in an abberation thats way too strong, they put in scanlines when color cartoons on TV werent for another twenty years, hell its not even actually cel shaded. It wouldn't be so much of an issue if they didn't make it such a big deal.

Then they go and say that they've studied and grown up with a variety of run n guns but in the gameplay department there's a lot of questionable choices. Dont get me wrong, the bosses look complex and interesting. But with shit like almost no audible feedback (hopefully just a wip thing), a ninja dash that makes you literally dissappear (something very troubling for a fast-paced run n gun), a short range spread gun, having to actually press x while touching the other player's ghost while in mid air DURING a boss fight in order to revive them, and an uninspired platforming level makes me wonder if they're truly passionate about what they're making

Of course its way too early to tell but im not optimistic

When some old dev was asked for what kind of CRT they developed(or in what the games looked best in) he replied by saying that " Sony Trinitrons are good" and Trinitrons were always great quality tv sets

Anyhow the CRT Filters massively fail at capturing the look of a low quality CRT too and makes things way too blurry

You develop games for how the audience are going to see it. I don't give a fuck if the devs used trinitron monitors, the vast majority of gamers are still going to be playing on a little 14" TV through a composite cable or RF modulator.

Graphics techniques such as dithering specifically exploited the averaging effect composite signals on CRT displays.

Seeing all those big sharp pixels in the cold light of day is not what the artists intended.

They developed the game and hoped for the best and at times they threw a bone to gamers by putting some effects here and there that could only be done through composite(Genesis comes to mind)

There's a reason RGB output was a thing as early as the Sega Master System/Mark III

Now you might have a point with the NES which had a PPU which only output Composite/RF and the color palette was tied to the NTSC encoding scheme but ever since the Master System that was not a thing anymore

Composite,RF,RGB etc. are just outputs
Yeah you lose some of the effects playing Sega Genesis on RGB but you also get a sharper/more vibrant picture with no color bleed so it's a trade-off

Never said it did, my friend. You are in fact arguing the exact same point I am trying to make.
Even on a good quality CRT, the pixels still have some bleed, and there are fucking scanlines, which is 90% of why people use CRT filters in emulators.

You need to understand a little about sampling theory and why sometimes what you can't see is more important than what you can. It's the same principle behind why some TVs insert black intermediate frames, and why cinema projectors only illuminate each frame for much less than 1/24th of a second
