There's actually 2 animes.
The first one has a meh story but the writers poured their heart and soul into it.
The second one has a much more interesting story but the writing is a lot more hit and miss.
If you just always a quick watch, then watch Brotherhood. If you want to immerse yourself in the characters and world and don't mid having to apply yourself a bit more than usual, then watch the original.
