Is this pannenkeok thing going to be a weekly comfy thread thing now?

Anyone got any other same-level autism video's that I can enjoy?
>>
>>340678418
Why did he choose to obsess over Mario 64 over some other game? Does he study every game he plays to a much lesser degree?
>>
>>340678763
You gotta specialize in something, he chose Mario 64

that was really interesting; this guy is the hero /v/ needs

>genuinely interested a video game and its mechanics
>talks about them without irony, without anger, without baiting
>>
>>340678418
This guy is cool as fuck. You all are so jealous, it's pathetic.
>>
>>340680404
Weird, I'm actually watching one of his other channels videos right now where he discusses this skuttlebug stuff right now. Shit is awesome, this guy is cool as shit.
>>
I don't really get what the point of this video is, but that's cool he's doing something unusual and intelligent. Hope he's successful with his intelligence in real life.
>>
>>340683187
He's a college professor, so yeah, he is. I wonder if any of his students know of this.
>>
>>340678418
Too much reading, I want the austimo kid talking.
>>
I'm slightly autistic and I hate it. I think it's something in our food and water.

Source on being a college professor?
>>
>>340678674

There's always ulililila. He's a lot less self aware and a lot more autistic but he's still comfy and soothing.
>>
>>340684039
my ass
>>
>>340684039
It's been mentioned a lot now so I've just assumed it to be correct

There's probably a source somewhere
>>
>>340684265
I've watched most of his videos and I've never seen him mention it, I feel like it's made up and just gets passed around. Maybe he's got a twitter or something I don't follow.
>>
>>340684378
His intellect and how he makes formulas for everything would match the profession, at least

I don't have a source but I've noticed he's only been posting during spring and summer breaks.

It's amazing how much hidden depth there is in the mechanics and logic of Mario 64. I wonder how much of it is unintentional. I also wonder if so much effort is put into more recent games. You'd never even realize all of this stuff has to be accounted for until it's explicitly pointed out.

As a side note, I can't hear the original version of Slider over the Flintstones version now.
>>
>>340684881
A huge amount of what's happening here is due to memory limitations of the N64
If Mario 64 was made for the Wii U for example (same graphics and everything) a whole lot of this wouldn't be possible without the console emulating the way the N64 runs exactly (which they wouldn't do, obviously)

>How old are you?
>I am 20 and in college at the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Computer Science.

Student, not a professor.
>>
>>340685721

Oh yeah, forgot about that. It's kind of interesting that there are extra glitches and exploits you can only do on emulator as well as on the 64. N64 really is the speedrunner's greatest gift.
>>
>>340684881
3D was a glass ceiling and Miyamoto knew they had to get it right with the 64's flagship launch product.

Shiggy was obsessed with making sure Mario controlled right and felt right when being controlled, so the occasionally insane shenanigans like Mario's infinite acceleration or vibrating into parallel universes are unintentional side effects of making something as sophisticated as Mario 64's movement system on something like the Nintendo 64.
>>
>>340678418

So what's the point of this glitch? Is there no way to manipulate it to help you grab a star with half an A press less?
>>
>>340685926

It really paid off. Honestly I don't know if I've played another platformer as satisfying with it's movement and physics as Mario 64. Games like Rayman Legends are pretty cool with the way you can abuse momentum, but Mario 64 is still king.
>>
>>340686110
Lets you re-enter Tick Tock Clock without pressing A.
>>
>>340685926
It's a lot of simple systems working together to make a great, complex game
even at the level of coding it's fascinating the implication.
The limits of the hardware are firm and precise and provided you know them the game will crash only when you predict it
It's amazing, really
Complexity caused by simplicity
>>
>>340686116

Try Sonic Adventure 1/2 if you haven't. They have the same kind of loose, somewhat glitchy momentum-based physics as Mario 64, but with a lot of added fast. Shit's crazy when you get good at it.

Stryder7x is the pannenkeok of Paper Mario.

I'm happy that this guy exists. It makes me realize how I have no passion for study areas that involve math and how I was right in dropping my Computer Science major. Hopefully I will be as this dedicated to my future studies and work.
>>
>>340686763

I was actually playing Sonic Adventure 2 in the last few days. I feel like Mario 64 is more about precision movement and the kind of weighty/grounded physics, whereas Sonic is consistently reaching high speeds using things like Spin dash cancelling to fly through the stage. It does feel real good to go fast, but since completion in SA is about high score, you have to slow yourself down sometimes to kill things or collect rings/do tricks. The flow is definitely a lot different.

Still real good though. Fuck Pyramid Cave.
>>
>>340687104

I don't think Sonic speedrunners care about score. It's all about going fast.
>>
>>340687393

That's a fair point. I'd love to be able to find a platformer no-one's speedrun yet and start a community for it, find all the glitches. Must be a really cool experience.
>>
It would be great if there was somebody interested in weird ocarina of time stuff as much as pannenkoek is in mario's
>>
>>340687606
>a platformer no-one's speedrun
If you do find one, chances are:
>It's not a good game
or
>It came out a few hours ago
>>
>>340687730

Yeah. I was hoping Magical Pop'n was obscure enough, but it was a good game after all so it even got played at a GDQ. I guess these days you gotta make your own.
>>
>>340680209
Indeed. Some people have asked if he will delve into Ocarina Of Time after having completely broken Mario 64, but he said no.

He's on the Mario train till the very end.

This guy is cool and fuck anyone who doesn't like the memes generated by the videos

Comfy ass videos, interesting content, and solid threads even if the mods did nuke them every five milliseconds.

We need more autists in the world.
