For me, steam is a lot faster than downloading a torrent. I have shitty DSL, and most torrents only get to about 512 kb/S, and steam goes up to 800 at peaks. Anyone thinking about getting DOOM without a heavy sale should reconsider.
It's entertaining and a solid game but it is DEFINITELY the best one could hope for all things considered (i.e. state of mainstream gaming and BETHESDA publishing it).
Multiplayer literally feels like Halo 3 but not nearly as polished or fun. In fact it seems really lacking in the identity department. If SnapMap wasn't so limited it would carry the game by itself.

There's a ranking system up to 5 stars for each stage, weapons to unlock, achievements, each mission is pretty replayable because there's a different ways to approach each scenario. It's about 5 hours long, I pirated it though so I can't really comment on value for money.

I don't think Doom is super CPU intensive, but don't quote me on that.
Still, for a gpu that powerful, you'll want at least an i5 to avoid bottlenecking. I had an 8350 with my 970 and I got a pretty significant increase in performance (as much as double the framerate in some games) when I upgraded to an i7.
Anyway, 970 and i7, I'm getting an average of about 100fps in Doom at 1080p, max settings. Though it can dip into the 60s in some areas.

How are the Stalker games? They're on saleon GOG. Also, I'm a consolefag who hates applying fixes 'n shit. Are the GOG versions fine? I also have a toaster, if it matters. The Forest, The Long Dark, some really disappointing indie stuff that I don't think is very good but looks interesting. It's been kinda a slow year with the exception of Starjew Valley. Everythings been about what I should have expected and I regret Xcom2 and DaS3.
