I feel the opposite way. StB and DS felt way more balanced and well designed than ISC, in my opinion. ISC is kind of overrated, actually. Too easy with items, too hard/rng-based without. StB/DS definitely benefited from having a more focused premise, allowing ZUN to do more interesting and fun cards than ISC had.Also rude dude, you don't even know my waifu.

I do like the photo games. I like how they just throw you into boss fights without having to slog through a stage first. I'm actually pretty bad at danmaku games but I feel like playing the photo games help with training.
