You'll never get that, outside of actual enthusiast websites

By default, the "media" is corrupt because no actual journalist wants to talk about kids entertainment, so we're "stuck" (if you're looking at "professional" news) with san francisco retards who wanted to be journalists but couldn't make the cut

Mostly likely they'll go a more tech/current haps route.
I don't visit the site too often but when I do it's not often even video games.

I'll probably just slowly die.

Hence cleaning house. When the reckoning arrives, like it has today, it teaches the younger generation that what passed as acceptable before will no longer be enough.

Hence, generations succeed cyclically. Boomers were shit, X was better, Millennials are shit, the next generation will do better.

Kotaku[g] was shit, hopefully Kotaku[x] will have hungry-enough up-and-comers that it will do better, but it does require a scorched-earth policy on current employees.

Nigger I understand that you were a kid and probably couldn't parse it, but almost every magazine was crooked. And almost quite openly so. The blatant paid reviews back then were so fucking in your face. And the positive coverage for systems and add-ons that everyone knew was going nowhere.

Do you honestly not remember the magazines praising and hyping the 3DO or the 32X or Rise of the Robots or whatever obvious shitty game that was quite an obvious paid review. Not to mention the official brand magazines (official sega/nintendo/sony magazines).

Not to say they weren't entertaining and lighthearted, and for the most part really cared about video games. But they had to accept payoffs probably just to keep the lights on.

If anything back then the paid reviews were so in your face you could easily spot them and not take them at face value, these days it's really hard to tell.

The only time I've heard "ethics" brought up on the internet is when either a hambeast SJW is talking about why I'm a racist bigot, or some sperg on /v/ is calling me a SJW feminist because I don't care about loli clothes.

The worst part is, both sides won't just shut the fuck up and take their politics elsewhere, and they both throw fits and tell me I'm some cartoonishly evil version of what they don't like just because I disagree with them.

The only time people bring up "ethics" on the internet, is when they're upset about something retarded and they want people to pay attention to them.

Only literal children and retards care about game reviews and its been this way since the 80s

Same with music reviews and movie reviews too. No one that gives even the slightest shit about their hobby cares what the critics think, and the people that do care what critics think obviously don't enjoy the hobby enough yet or they would have learned to form their own opinions.

Today, ethics is one of those things where it's best to be an outsider looking in, since everyone who still "believes in ethics" can't seem to talk straight about it at the same time as "believing" in them.

It's not about belief in ethics, really. The truth is that we are all unique animals, and to do our best requires us to author our own "ethical codes", regardless of the society immediately surrounding you and its ethics (which are often straight out of the looney bin anyways).

When we all agree to live together in society, certain codes are enforced to ensure everything flows smoothly and is protected. Being ethical at the workplace is just following those rules, even if indignant idiots want to act like it deserves a medal or something.

Anyways, one way of effectively enforcing these codes of ethics is to lie, to say that the codes are essentially human and have always applied and always will, etc. Like I said earlier, from the outside, you can see that ethics are just a necessary practice to keep society in check against a corresponding threat. It's not a requirement that you fall for them to enjoy their benefits.

I'd also like to point out that most of what Kotaku writing is awful for is how it takes a "code of ethics" or something similar and whacks it over every game and game news article it can. It's no coincidence that someone worn and wretched (their readership) would want to guilt trip others with a piece of imaginary finery.

It's vague to allow leeway with things like E3 and similar that aren't video games, but are intrinsically linked to video games.

>And your point?
That one line in the rules is a big problem because people throw it around whenever they're called out for off-topic shitposting.

Its why there are so many stupid e-Celeb and internet gossip threads on /v/ lately, since, TECHNICALLY, watching other people play games is now a part of "video game culture"

Everyone likes to blame the mods, but the real reason why /v/ is shit is because of the people that use it. The mods can only do so much to help fix a large group of people that just want to pretend to be retarded so that someone else can pretend to be retarded by falling for retarded bait. Its like a giant back patting circle of spergs thinking "he he he, everyone here is stupid except me, they probably have no idea I was only pretending!"

All I'm saying is that the wording made more sense 10 years ago, these days it just leads to shitposting more often than not.

The rule itself is fine, it just needs to be reworded, its too easy to abuse right now, and too vague to really enforce.

Hopefully Tortilla will learn a valuable lesson from all this.

Hopefully Burrito learns the lesson of how to generate a truly loyal readerbase.

You see, Enchilada, if you're reading this, loyalty does not come from feeding them cake. They will *seem* like they're loyal, but they will abandon you the moment you run out of cake to feed them, or somebody else comes along with better cake.

Loyalty, Mr. Tostada, comes from building a bond of trust with your readers. That trust comes from behaving with honesty, honor, and integrity. From placing faith in your readers by not insulting their intelligence with clickbait headlines. From adhering to the journalist's code of ethics and humbly issuing retractions and apologies when you make a mistake.

You're never too old to make a mistake, Mr. Quesadilla.

Not all attacks on the press are attacks on free speech.

When the press enforces the spread of misinformation, this is called "propaganda". It's the antithesis of honest reporting. Ideally, a free press is resistant to propaganda, as you can always look to alternatives to give you the real story. However, unfortunately, we've reached a point where all of the big players are in bed with each other, and many of them get their news from the same biased sources. We don't have the wide variety of separate news sources that we might appear to have looking at the surface. Instead, we just a have one big propaganda machine that's in dire need of being taken down.

Also, stopping the spread of misinformation and demanding that a particular position either defend their points or shut up is not censorship. On the contrary, this weeding out of non-truths is the strength of free speech.

Such as? Functionally games press is a hype machine.

Every piece of investigative journalism has been eyerolley. How many times can you report on EVE online as if it was a REAL WAR?

Their idea of gonzo journalism is installing dick mods in Skyrim.

Jason Crier's feather-in-a-cap piece on Titan was blindsided once Overwatch was revealed a week later, something his super sleuthing failed to uncover.

Let's not forget that they're still bragging about the Rob Ford story where they crowdfunded a bunch of money to give to inner-city crack dealers for blackmail tapes.

Or the time they posted a video of a girl probably being raped and when she asked them to take it down they basically told her to fuck off.

Or the time they used a stolen iPhone prototype to extort Apple

Or the fact that Jezebel exists.

Or like 50 other equally terrible things that don't immediately come to mind.

I'm honestly surprised it's taken this long for someone to finally dig into Gawker. They've done so much shit ranging from unethical to straight up illegal that they should have been assraped in court long ago.
>>
>>340684272
Its not

They only exist to enforce rules, you're taking it as a personal attack when they delete your posts, but ultimately, you're just one of millions of people on 4chan, they don't know you enough to try and attack you personally.

/v/ is also one of the fastest boards on 4chan, with, I can only assume, the fastest flood of reports to go along with it. Instead of assuming there is a conspiracy against you, maybe just consider that the mods aren't omnipotent and have like 200-300 reports an hour to deal with at least
>>
>>340686191
Honestly I bet there's more reports per hour than that.

But if I recall, ain't janitors responsible to sort of sift through all the reports, dismissing ones that don't need attention, and or flagging reports that do need attention (aka elevated "ticket" in support queues when it comes to IT/etc).

Also, that's why janitors can block you from posting if a mod still hasn't caught up to a report, or for example, someone submitting false reports as well (by then wasting the janitors/mods time).

That's why there is always janitor recruitment, because janitors are plenty, but mods are only promoted from janitors after time and experience. Don't know what else because I haven't really cared for behind the scenes drama since I came here over a decade ago besides the figureheads and some mod personalities.
>>

I never heard about this one. I thought their whole thing was exploiting men is good, women is bad

There IS however a reason to delete them when there are 4-5 other threads already up.

When it comes to something like this that is only just sorta videogames, then its always best for OP to look through the catalogue first.

Regardless of what OP says, he made this thread for the (you)s because he didn't think his post would get much attention in a thread that was already moving.

All you need to do is keep in mind that no one is being "censored", duplicate threads are just being deleted. And since Gawker isn't a popular new game release like MGSV, Overwatch or something, then it doesn't get a 2-3 week free pass before being limited to 1-2 threads at a time like everything else.

Early today every single thread on the topic was deleted. I have no problem with duplicates getting deleted, but every single one isn't okay

There is a good chance that maybe more than one jani/mod were going through reports and didn't plan out which thread should be kept.

Instead of assuming the mods are out to get you, just try and consider just how fucking many shitposts they have to delete on /v/

Just think of how shitty /v/ is at all times, all of the threads you've seen shit up by autists and kids. Now consider that you only browse 4 maybe 5 threads at a time, and its their job to get rid of shitposts in all threads at once, sometimes for more than one board at a time.

Instead of believing internet consipiracy theories, just try considering that maybe they just fucked up or maybe you broke the rules somehow.

If you ever feel like your "freedom of speech" is being impeded on /v/, try a different board?

If you want to talk about "gamer fuel" you can always make a snacks thread on /ck/, if you want to talk about music you listen to while playing games, /mu/ is always an option. etc..

/v/ isn't the only board on 4chan, you should try other boards when you don't want to talk about games.

However, in this particular case it just sounds like someone messed up
