Multiple reasons
The first is that it used to be OK, back when it was a bit more grimdark. They flushed out the orc clans among other things and it had a lot of potiential.
They then made several core mistakes that ruined it. The first is they let a man named Richard Knaak start writing lore books. While later books were based off lore concepts that were already explained in the games, his first book made huge lore contributions such as the Dragon Flights (prior to this Alexstrasa and Deathwing were just two powerful dragons). As we all know, the dragon lore in WoW is among the worst.
The second mistake was more of a decline, Metzen got older and started seeing the grimdark elements as immature and edgy, developing a love for silver age comics and developing a Michael Bay mentality.
They got incredibly lazy and started taking the dumbest elements from other franchises (Titans and Old gods from Cthulhu Mythos, for example). You can pretty much tell they quickly cycled through writers are every single addition to the lore retconned something and certain things changed purpose every time.
Some good examples include arcane magic and The Emerald Dream. First Arcane magic was just magic, then it was made into evil demon shit, demons were immune to it and mages were susceptible to corruption. They even described arcane as being the lighter drug and fel being the purest full throttle drug, which is why Dalaran had a demon problem. But then that was retconned so that Arcane is separate from Fel and magic was no longer demonic, because the well of eternity couldn't be demonic.
The emerald dream literally changed purpose every time it was mentioned, first it was a blueprint of Azeroth, then a life bank/backup for Azeroth, now it's the planets dream.

I think another problem comes from Metzen stepping back a bit and Samwise getting more influential.
Samwise loves drawing cool badass heroic brotherhood stuff and not really thinking about how it fits.

Looking in retrospective, Thrall's story is pretty fucked up.
There's no fucking way you can get from the swamp of sorrows to Hillsbrad from a river, and even ignoring that, how will they make him learn shaman magic?
The Frostwolves are dead so he can't go find them in the Alterac mountains, and in this movie there isn't a shaman mention anyway.

You'd would think that with the pivotal role that Drek'Thar has in Frostwolf lore, he'd at least have a minor role in the movie.

Leader guy finds out his wife/sex slave been hanging out with Thrall and going to a secret cave at nights to talk and hangout with him.
He thinks they're fucking or something and murders her, throws her head at the feet of Thrall. Thrall summons the element of earth to fuck up the whole castle and then kills the dude.
