Not who you replied to, but could you elaborate why they had a bad track record? Was it just because of haze flopping?
>>340621971
most mass effect 3 related images can be relevant.
its like that game was designed specifically to be as cancerous as possible
>>340622742
Yes, because their latest game was absolutely horrible.
As for "too much content", thematic unity is more important artistically than commercially. When even the marketing people are telling you to tone down the diversity of content, then you're REALLY fucking it up something fierce.
>>340622742
Haze was so bad in sales term. Remember that this was supposed to be PS3's Halo
>>340622517
I can see that. Serious Sam managed to be all over the place and still keep a consistent tone.
>>340622930
Never heard of "thematic unity".
What is it?
>>340623097
There's a major theme that binds them all
Like TS2 had the future shit as the main theme
>>340623092
>Serious Sam managed to be all over the place and still keep a consistent tone.
It can't be both, it's either all over the place or it manages to keep a consistent tone. It simply can't be both at once.
>>340623097
Unity of theme, dear fuckwit. Are you the village idiot or somehting?
>>340623131
This will never not be funny because Talifags are insufferable cunts
>>340623325
This is just advertisement barely disguised as an article. Do you get angry at ads?
>>340623418
Depressing, but also, in a sense, invigorating.
From the best vidya journalist
>>340623423
>Do you get angry at ads?
Yes, because today's ads are intrustive, interupt you, all over the place, fucking MASSIVE and force you to download adblock and anti adblock killer just to have a decent browsing experience.
Plus I usually don't keep depressing video game shit on my folder and this is the closest I can get to the topic related.
>>340621971
>>340623583
Actually, I only ever see them when fuckwits like you post screencaps of them here on /v/. You should pick your information sources better instead of following Twitters of every person you hat eand then spreading their word all over the internet even years after those people have likely died of aids.
>>340623201
Sorry, I was a little puzzled why they publishers would shoot down the game for too much content other than it would be too much work and time for their investment.
I read it again and them shooting it down partly because it doesn't have a clear and simple marketing message just doesn't make sense to me. It's a shooter game with a lot of different mini-games with time travel as it's central theme. How is that hard to sell when the game (timesplitters) is already a popular brand among video gamers.
Did they assume that people wouldn't understand they'd be buying a wacky shooter video game?
>>340623679
I thought a company had copyrighted that specifically to prevent people from actually implementing it.
>>340623570
I like Patrick but woo that's a shit opinion there
>>340622150
Sounds like a sweet deal
>>340623701
That's what I'm talking about. Commercially, it sounds ok. It's aesthetics of it that sounds problematic. Hilariously enough, developers here are trying to make some fast-food grade entertainment and marketing people are telling them to get their shit together and try to make a coherently themed game for once. It's fucking hilarious.
>>340623741
That's a patent dipshit
>>340623892
Whatever, you get my meaning.
>>340623701
"Thematic unity" just a buzzword. The publishers probably wanted Free Radical to cut content from their game to feed future DLCs and they probably refused to do it.
>>340623679
>be deaf-mute
>can't vidya
>>340623862
i dont care what every person on earth thinks
both MW1 and MW2 were fantastic games
>>340623956
>"Thematic unity" just a buzzword.
It's one of the basic concepts in art, dear raging ignoramus.
>>340623646
Kinda glad this didn't happen honestly.
Today it might work now that we have the tech to make "cartoony" graphics look good, but that looks dated even for its time.
not so much depressing as it is hilarious
>>340624151
He sounds single, so what's there to cuck?
>>340624151
But that's hilarious.
>>340623750
I dunno, I think its retarded.
Its OK if one is kinda bored of vidya and needs to have a pause and talk shit about em instead. But making a already flawed game with shit storytelling and lore, taking away the combat would take away the game part of the bioware epic of Dragon Age cisquisition.
His whole argument was about taking away the combat of DA could make it better, instead of having an argument of how could it be more engaging. But again this was one the games he liked because of the message of the game instead of the gameplay.
I'm not sure which is more sad liking the game for the message only, or not wanting to play the game.
I remember when fast travel was done in a good way.

>>340624076
Sure m8, I'm sure publishers would love the idea of a game having a shit load of free unlockable content in the era of day one DLCs and locked out true endings.
>>340621971
>>340622930
That's the series all over though. Jumping through time in various locale and time periods. Plus bonus missions.

For the FO4 launch party they just called a bunch of minor celebrities to act like they cared about it.
There's an interview that one youtube guy did to a woman, she says she's so excited about FO4, then when asked if she's ever played any of the previous FO games she says no.

I'm almost 27, I miss 90's and first half of 00's, especially 2005-2006, when I was 15-17, but such is life. I found some new interests, moved on. Plus, I can play good old games again and again. always find something new in them.

Only a few games on that list are great. It's a real reddit opinion that "games were sooo much better back in the days"
>>340629595
Fallout even as a prototype newschool RPG.
Thief as a perfection of LGS without the downtime of System Shock or Deus Ex.
Street Fighter III / The King of Fighters '98 as a pinnacle of fighting games.
Need for Speed III - the essential racing game.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - massive step for all action-adventure games.
StarCraft (+ Brood War) - the finest hour of Blizzard.
Quake III Arena - still the essential online FPS.
I can name many more.

Has there been a year recently with a good lineup of games? I don't mean one or two good games, a good lineup.
>>340624983
A good, immersive compromise between the two would be a spell that gives you a beacon in the sky or some shit. It's a shame that there really are not any games that have realistic navigation by map. The only recent one is Arma 3 with specific mods.
>>340624030
it's natural every year the bar drops a little on this site and we slowly go from mw1 was good, to mw2 was good, to mw3 was good, etc.
>>340632183
Map navigation was the one cool thing about Firewatch, and even in that had markers enabled by default.
what happened
>>340633193
Why the hell would they do that? If they gave proper tools and ability to draw on the map, most people would either have to learn how to navigate properly or learn through memorization. Neither is a necessarily bad thing. Maybe allow stuff like markers in easy mode, to get the hang of things, but games like DayZ prove people are willing to either figure it out or suck it up.
Sierra is not dead tho, what are you guys even thinking?
