Could a Gwent standalone game actually rival Hearthstone?
I haven't played either, but CDPR seems to think they can get a slice of that hearthstone money since they're going balls deep with this ad space.

Hearthstone is popular because it's a blizzard game and was hyped up by streamers when it was invite-only, then people played when it was open beta, then started spending money and don't want to leave it because they have cash invested in it.

Hearthstone is by Blizzard, and Gwent is kinda shallow even in comparison. Gwent standalone would need new mechanis and a rebalance of Tight Bond, Spies and Hero cards

Hearthstone is just too popular at the moment. People have spent too much money on it and nothing will make them leave
Except maybe another massive company making a card game and doing a shitload of advertising for it. But CDPR is not that company
Gwent is fun as fuck but it's only great compared to other minigame card games (like Triple Triad and such)
It would need a shitton of balancing before it could be taken seriously as its own thing
