I got this in early access or whatever, and never played it because I either never spend my money, or waste it.
Does this game have good combat? It's what hooked me on Terraria, and why I can't go back to Minecraft or Starbound, hoping the 1.0 release helps with the latter though.
Have my eyes on Planet Centauri though, it lets you make your own spells and has bosses, so hopefully that ends up well done.

Wouldn't a ultrahigh advertising budget and polish(optional) sell like hot cakes? Devs make dozens of RE4 clones and GTA clones. Aren't the successful indies proof it can easily be duplicated by more experienced hands?

Yes and no. The core gameplay remains mostly the same but has been expanded upon in a billion very natural ways. Instead of constantly reworking and reworking and reworking the core mechanics over and over, they stuck with their one and polished it. The only real flaw is that melee feels a lot less like melee should towards the end of the game, as they run with boomerangs and flails and add in yo-yos and javelins, thrown items, emitting projectiles, but that's a relatively minor gripe all things considered.
There's fishing now, and mounts and minecarts and wiring has so many more options than it used to and is so much easier to boot, and there's tons of new bosses and there's a new class and the progression is basically double if not triple that of 1.1.

Why does this shit always have floaty controls and combat? You could really do awesome shit with that world building if only the character had basic platforming combat abilities with tight controls. But nooo just put some faggy random generated nothing in there to let the player farm wood for 1000 hours.

Terraria is a masterpiece because the sprite artists know how to make consistent sprites, you know, everything in Terraria looks like it actually belongs in Terraria.
