GOG IS GIVING AWAY SYSTEM SHOCK 2

If you haven't played this masterpiece go get it now
>>
It aged like milk
Bioshock is better
>>
>>340605190
Bioshock has probably aged worse to be honest, there are serious problems in the end game where every enemy becomes a bullet sponge

Not to mention the way plasmids worked required you to continually switch weapons which had to be remedied in Bioshock 2
>>
>>340604706

>Please please use our client

>We'll bribe you with a really old game that has no worth and been bundled for a few cents

>Please?
>>
>>340605616
The dual-wielding in 2 was definitely an improvement, but I've played 1 several times and haven't had any 'bullet sponge' enemies.
>>
>>340605961
>haven't had any 'bullet sponge' enemies.

It occurs just after you kill Ryan . After that point of the game every enemy suddenly has their health tripled

Granted it is pretty late in the game but it is very noticeable
>>
>>340605921
It was literally the most requested GOG game ever so it makes sense
>>
>>340605921
GOG always has great sales and wants you to play the games whenever you want to, why is that bad?
>>
>>340606334
Headshots, even from the basic pistol, never took more than 3 shots to kill any human enemy. Big Daddys have a lot of health, but they're supposed to, and since they're non-aggressive you always get the jump on them.
>>
Reminder that Ken Levine is and always was a hack.
>>
I'm installing the game, never tried it before.

It is harder than deus ex 1?
>>
>>340606650
Use common sense when you make your character, please. People all over the internet complain about games like SS2 saying it's "too hard" because they made an ass character. At least you could beat DX 1 with a shitty character (like spending your points in swimming and environmental for example) but SS2 actually requires you to upgrade your skills so use common sense please.
>>
>>340606569
>never took more than 3 shots to kill any human enemy
Not in the end game, I guarantee it. At Hephaestus you'll notice most enemies go down very quickly but at Point Prometheus it takes about 12 shots to the head with the pistol (with enhanced damage even) to put a splicer down
>>
>>340607065
define common sense. as I remember you can win with pretty much anything and the game encourages weird builds.
>>
>>340606650
Not really. I can tell you how to easily destroy the game but then it wouldn't be fun.

Even if you fuck up your build you can beat the game without too many problems unless you're on impossible difficulty.
>>
>>340607109
Then you mustn't have been hitting their head
On hard it's pretty much 3 headshots for every human
You can also play on normal, since it pretty much just affects damage tables if they bother you so much.

>>
>>340605190

How did it age badly? It's still an excellent game.
>>
>>340607503
I keep telling you it's the splicers towards the end of the game. Play it again, they have way more health
>>
>>340604706
i LITERALLY just bought this on steam. i would be more upset if i was a poorfag

im stuck on deck 5 dunno where to go
>>
>>340605190
Bullshit I've played both and SS2 kicks the shit out of it. Played Bioshock long before SS2. Bioshock felt like a diet system shock.
>>
aging like milk and games aging are truly the dankest /v/ memes
>>
>>340604706
So where are they giving this away? Do I have to install that GOG not-DRM-we-swear-guys client to get this, cause I'm not seeing it on the store page.
>>
>>340608032
Ah yep, looks like my intuition was on the mark. Well, I guess I can delete the client after I get SS2.

>>340605190
SS2 is legit better.

The smaller environments of early 3d games is worked around marvelously in SS2, where it channels claustrophobia and a general sense of dread.
>>
>>340604706
Does that mean it's ethically permissible for me to torrent this now?
>>
can I play with my friend if I have the steam version and he has the GoG version?

You need to find the transmitter code. Unfortunately I think that part of the game really is bullshit as the code is hidden in the art terminals.

1. Find the crew quarters card
2. Find the athletics sector card inside crew quarters
3. Get the transmitter code from the art terminals
4. Enter the transmitter code in the athletics sector

If you don't want to deal with the bullshit art terminals the code is 14106
>>
>>340608442
Yes but System Shock 2 co-op is a massive pain to get working even if you're using hamachi. It frequently just drops its connection
>>
Playing this for the first time tonight. I love it so far. That music had me smiling so big as I was wacking enemies with a wrench and cruising around just taking it all in.
>>
>>340604706
why do they call this game a horror when the scariest thing about the game is the amount of backtracking you have to do?
>>
Does gog have the patch from the sourcecode-fag included in it?

The game only has three backtracking parts though and the only one I find infuriating is

Korenchkin blocking your access to the umbilical so you can fight him
>>
>>340608495
I found two of the codes (how they expect me to figure out what order these will all go in is beyond me)

i just cant find the fucking crew quarters card. ive gone back and forth on deck 5 like 4 times and still cant find that shit. now its spawning cyber ninjas and mechs every time i look somewhere ive already been.
>>
>>340604706
fucking shit I'm at fucking work for next 6.5 hours and this shit ends in 6
kill me fucking now
>>
>>340608724
Yep

GOG put it into Thief 1 and 2 as well

It's in the garden area of deck 5 which looks like this. Everything you need for a deck will ALWAYS be on that deck
>>
>yet another digital distribution platform nobody asked for

ill pass
>>
>>340608657
Because the generation at that time wasn't desensitized by all the whiz bang graphics and muh muh immersion tropes we have now. That's why shit like this and Resident Evil frightened people back then.
>>
>>340609185
goddamn it i swear i scoured every inch of the garden. thank you anon. youve been great.

and this game is really good. its a shame i hadnt played it til now. how close to the end am i?

By the way, protip:

The default FOV is 90 degrees. You can increase it in cam_ext.cfg along with some other options.

>no one every asked to be free from valve's heel
I'm old enough to remember when /v/ hated steam, passionately.
Now everyone cares more about their little social network than actually owning their games.
>>
Can't wait for the first timers bitching about a 17 year old game not playing like a current gen title.
Legit concern over SS3, which is very close to happening, not looking forward to a Bioshock lite with crafting and Borderlands style looting.
They should not include SHODAN in the 3rd, give The Many a second shot. SHODAN will be reduced to a Saturday morning cartoon-tier villain by a third attempt.
>>
>>340609434
yeah, because being free from valve's heel apparently means adopting a substitute instead of ditching it entirely

look, i can just torrent these games instead, and if i REALLY want to play a triple A game that uses denuvo or whatever, ill probably get fucked in the ass no matter how i acquire it

so yeah, im not using this shit
>>
>>340609434
I don't think it's so much that people are loyal to Steam, but rather that Steam isn't going anywhere any time soon, and none of these other services provide a realistic alternative to the extent that I can stop using Steam and use this new service entirely. If I want to use this new service I will have to use it in addition to Steam, which is fucking annoying having to juggle multiple distribution platforms depending on what game I want to play.
>>
>>340609356
Probably about 5 more hours for a blind run

You have to do some egg hunting soon which will be fairly frustrating
>>
>>340609356
Not close. Enjoy.
>>340609434
Halo and CoD threads got sagebombed off the board in that time. The pre-Bazinga era.
>>
>>340609692
No GoG games force you to use their client. All of them have been distributed completely DRM free with DDLs if you want to go that route. The client is just an optional thing.

I'm not sure. There might be some obscure keybind in user.bnd that'll let you do it.

anon is right, if you want to play it standard shootan, get standard weapons 6 so you can use the assault rifle (you will never use the automatic as it both wastes ammo and makes the gun break faster so think of it as a big pistol)

>>
>>340609713
I have them both put shortcuts on my desktop
or you could make a folder with the .exes and put them all in there
steam actually lets you add .exes the the steam library and access them like you would a steam game
>>
>>340609713
I like galaxy but I also don't want another launcher sitting on my desktop so i don't use it. That's the cool thing with the slavs and DRM free games. I just get them from the website whenever I want to install.

>>
Which stats and skills are the most important and are there any useless skills like swimming was in Deus Ex?
>>
>>340614540
don't level repair, disposable single use maintenance tools are way better. You level maintenance, higher levels let you fix better guns when they break and use the tools as you find them/buy them
>>
>>340614339
>can't claim it cause at work
>called my mom to install teamviewer on her pc and will claim it through that

>>
>>340614540

Repair is absolutely useless. Maintenance is absolutely essential, though maxing to 6 is not necessary. Modify is extremely useful.

At least maintenance is absolutely essential regardless of what playstyle you're going. Even psi people need a gun sometimes. Hacking is pretty cool, and helps out a lot in many cases, but it is never essential to beat the game. Psi can make you ridiculously overpowered if you level it right and may make most other skills in the game pretty useless.

If you get some of the better melee weapons (not wrench), you can do some pretty good damage using only melee attacks with strength skilled. Agility is also useful here. Melee takes some skill to pull off though.
