Been working on a project for the last 2 or so years on and off, and finally have enough time for a monthly release. Remember those old /v/ compilation albums? I was a part of some of them, including VGM THE BEST 1 & 2.
I am making a new series, this one themed by mood ala the Nintendo Sound Selection. Question is, what mood should we open with?
Just to get a better understanding of what we're going for here, these were the 3 Nintendo ones.

Though in prior attempts over the years, I've helped with voting threads, a lot of these are curated a large part by myself. That being said, the more board input we have, the better and more varied the compilation will be. If you can think of any great tracks and the moods they would fit, please post them.
Currently, I am aiming to release one of the following as the debut album.
Layton: Puzzling Music
Wonder-Red: Hero Music
Gum: City-Soul Music
Material for 8 mostly completed albums have been done. Each is normalized from a lossless source when possible runs about an hour, and will be encoded in 256 kbps AAC, JUST like VGM THE BEST. All I really need now is more suggestions, your input and board directions and ideas to jump-start this and get this out once and for all. It's been a while since we've done this, so let's make it good.

That's right. It's in the style of Nintendo Sound Selection, but this is for all video games, each with a different character to represent the mood on the art.
Have something in mind? We need Character, Mood/Theme, and song suggestions.
We need ice/crystal as a theme. Stuff like the caves from SMW2 and the Crystal Palace from Paper Mario would fit there.
Space is another theme.

See, I don't do RTS games and fighters much, so there's a lot of music that I don't even know about that is just what a project like this needs! Keep it coming, and thank you for the suggestion.
But yeah, moods or genres can be pretty much anything. "crystally" sounding music, ice music, lounge music, multi-track gapless medleys... The possibilities are endless, and gives each album a certain focus that VGM The Best lacked.

I'll try thinking of some more examples. I seem to remember Tatsunoko VS Capcom having some good tracks. I'd suggest Marvel VS Capcom 2 and Third Strike tracks but I figure everyone knows how good those jazzy OSTs are.

Well, though I could finish everything up myself, I do want to get more input from the board so we can have more variety with each release. If that doesn't happen though, I wouldn't be against doing more moods down the line. For example, Vol 1: Wonder-Red Hero Music and Vol 5: Shovel Knight More Hero Music would not be out of the question.
As far as regular posting intervals, whether it be within this month or next, I plan to release the first one in a saturday night, and hopefully keep going with once a month and take it from there. Each release thread would also have links to prior albums and be a suggestions thread as well.

This is just a prototype I made in 3 minutes to show off what an actual release would look like.
Man, we had so many vidya albums, but my favorite ones are still the one made by Donkey Kong.
On topic, a theme with just vocal songs might work?
Another themed album could be one focused on final boss battles.

Remixes are kosher, but very sparingly. In the Nintendo Sound Selection series, the end of each album has a remix or arrangement version of a song already on the album, but limits them to only a few like 3-4.
In other words, remixes are cool, and make for great ending filler, but shouldn't be the focus.
