Depends on game. Here's my personal slacker's grind guide to a few games.
> play tales game
> put everyone including first player on auto
> stand in spot where enemies spawns
> play vita/3ds while tales characters auto battle
> press x when I hear victory music then go back to playing handheld
And that's how I grind in Tales games. I typically don't even grind until I reach near endgame and only did so for the level 99 trophy in Tales of Xillia. You never really need to grind in Tales games.

I tried replaying it recently since i never got to finish it when i was younger (i borrowed it), but i remember i loved it

I loved the gambit system, but now i find it really annoying, even more so because i found myself wanting another variable to add to them

Online play. Gotta grind for the right Pokemon with the right natures and IV's, while also grinding for the moves you need on a suitable parent, and then grind the levels for your Pokemon itself until you get all the moves you need.
