The central part of the wasteland is much less interesting than the rest. My suggestion would be to just get yourself some good gear and head for one edge of the map, there's all kinds of interesting shit out there.
I roll through the wasteland with my Plasma Caster supported by Arcade carrying a Gatling Laser.
Just a reminder that Explosives + melee or fist combo are the best way to play FO:NV
Everything else is just tedious and repetitive no fun allowed modo

I haven't done Lonesome Road or Old World Blues yet, but I still prefer Honest Hearts over Dead Money. Its mostly Zion Park is a comfy place, and Sierra Madre is a shitty place.

Why does all the armor look like shit?
I just did Honest Hearts for the first time and I was pretty disappointed. Joshua was nice but everything seemed to be somewhat lacking. No interesting loot for the current build I was running, all though the shishkebab looked like it would be a fun weapon for melee runs. Are the other DLCs any better? How do you all feel about it?

I love old world blues and dead money, but yeah I didn't like honest hearts much either. Lonesome road is better than honest hearts but I wasnt too fond of it. The ed-e you get it cute though.

Honest Hearts is kind of weird. Graham is based as fuck and the Survivalist logs are probably the single best piece of writing in the Fallout universe, but the rest of the dlc is pretty mediocre.
The environments are nice, but there's no real reason to explore other than to find Survivalist caches and the two side quests that they had time to write. IIRC Sawyer mentioned on his blog somewhere that HH had the most rushed release schedule of all the dlcs, but it's still pretty good considering.
The other dlcs have a much tighter story, especially the overarching plot that ties them together.
Dead Money has great writing, but it blindsides you with the sudden Survival Horror gameplay and ambience which makes most people hate it.
OWB is funny as hell, the environments are well done, the characters are fantastic, and it really makes Big MT feel lived in with the traces of Elijah, Christine and Ulysses.
Lonesome Road is my personal favorite because I'm a sucker for all that mythic BEAR AND THE BULL shit, the gameplay is probably the most solid of the dlcs and it introduces some nice gear, but most people were turned off by Ulysses and his rambling (though his audiologs do make you more sympathetic to his weird brand of autism)

There's a lot of melee weapons out the gates, though. Even if you don't "cheat" to go get Chance's knife.
