I don't think you understand what modern marketing is or how it works. It isn't about showing the quality of a product. It's just repeated exposure. If the average person has to listen to people talking about a game on what is likely the only forum they go on for at least a couple hours a day, the game becomes ingrained in their consciousness. Even if they don't like it, they will still be able to name characters and know memes.
