I had this same feeling as well with the first chapter. I played the first chapter and let the rest just sit on my computer for months.
I finally got around to it cause I felt like I needed to at least finish it and get it off my backlog.
The game really reels you past the halfway point of episode 2 and I finished the other 3 episodes in 2 days.I had a great time.

Max is probably one of the most boring character's I've ever played as and her voice acting is wooden.
