So I went in FUCKING GAMESTOP yesterday and talked to the clerk. Appearantly hw told me if you are a normal power up rewards member (the point reward program they offer, but the free one) the system will automatically use your points to send you minimal $5 off coupons through email. He says this is to prevent people from unintentionally accumulating enough points to get a free current gen console controller for free when gotten enough points as well as enticing customers with "free" coupons.
The clerk then told me however that there is a way to disable this, and it requires you to change a setting on your Power Up Rewards profile online. That is the extent of what I know though. Spread the word and Good luck.
Also, FUCKING Gamestop thread
Yeah this started a few weeks ago. It's very annoying for the customers.
I would say I'm suprised, but I'm not. GS is a really faggoty corporation.
Anybody know how thier prices are with retro vidya?
>>340535078
Not worth it. You can find better deals at local retro shops or even online at specialty sites for better.
>>340535298
>You can find better deals at local retro shops
Now that's fucking saying something
>>340534641
>2015
>go to GameStop one day to get Bloodborne
>purchase it, and leave
>there's a twelve year old kid outside standing around with a plastic fedora on his head
>he turns around
"Whoa you got the new Bloodborne game?"
>tell him yes
"Do you think it will be fun?"
>tell him I didn't know since I haven't played it yet
"Do you think I could borrow it from you sometime?"
>thefuckisthis.png
>ask him if he has money to buy it himself
"Oh yeah, but I have to wait for my mom to come out of the store and buy it for me"
>ask him why he asked me then, and if he had a ps4 to play it on
"Wait it's for the ps4?"
>awkward pause
"Uh, um, uh"
>he powerwalks to a woman coming out of a phone store and doesn't even go back
I wonder if he ever got the game. Fucking Gamestop.
>>340534641
Glad I saw this. Good looking out senpai.
>>340535897
LITERALLY
BUILT

SNACKS
>>340535731
>that fedora kid has more fun on a daily basis than you do in a decade
life isn't fair
>>340534641
I just checked my account and it takes away 5000 points? Holy fuck.
I was gonna use that to save a bit on MHX next month and the coupon expires a day before it, LOL WHAT IS THIS SHIT.
>>340535298
>You can find better deals at local retro shops
Except I can't fucking find any. Garage sales are my only bet.
>>340536031
because he's a kid, you autist. ten years from now he'll be miserable like the rest of us.
If the coupon expires it gets refunded back as points.

>>340536031
Ignorance is bliss my friend. I would say I didn't choose this life, but I did.
>tfw borderline autistic, self aware, AND unhappy all at the same time
>>340536148
If you call the corporate you MIGHT be able to talk them into giving you your points back, or at least extending the coupon date length. Talk just angry enough to where your threat of "losing a customer" sounds serious, but no higher that you sound hysterical.
>>340536219
I was miserable even as a kid.
At least I have nothing to miss.
>>340536302
Where on the site can I disable it?
I'm not defending GameStop, but I'm pretty sure they sent out an email explicitly stating that would happen and how to disable it. Sucks for most of the stupid kids buying stuff there.
>mfw I fill out online surveys sometimes to accumulate 30,000 GameStop points every 3 months then blow them on the largest coupons
>>340536302
It doesn't.
>>340536995
Click the "Power-up Rewards" tab.
Then on that page click the "Manage Reward Preferences" link.
>>340536995
Ky my man
>>340534641
>console cucks have to deal with these stupid shenanigans
Life is easy using the superior platform with multiple services to choose from as well
>>340536302
Not sure if that's a recent change, but I've had a coupon expire in the past, and not only could I not renew the coupon for use, but I didn't get any points back.
>>340537169
Good looks, my man. Seems it was too late and one $5 has already been issued to me. Fuck.
>>340537104
I mean as "fair" as that is, do you honestly expect everyone to read the emails retailers send you, especially if you don't expect any actual coupons out of them?
The whole reason I have a secondary email account is so I can participate in these retailer services without actually being harassed by the constant ads.
>>340535298
>You can find better deals at local retro shops
Do you happen to live in New York City? I doubt I could even find one in Michigan.
>>340534641
That happened to me about two weeks ago.
Can't even use this piece of shit coupon online or for any dlc or PSN/eShop/etc cash card.
This is what it will look like. They automatically add the coupons from your points but you still have to activate it, despite a predesignated expiration date being applied.
>>340537394
Recent change. They even made it to where if you don't use the birthday coupon (20% of 1 preowned game) it'll roll over to the next month
>>340537578
>do you honestly expect everyone to read the emails retailers send you, especially if you don't expect any actual coupons out of them?
I'd certainly read one that says there have been changes to your account, which is what they sent out.
>>340537784
At least you can get some Life Savers gummies or a beat up console copy of Demon's Souls if you ever happen to be in a store before it expires thanks to them being in-store only.
>>340537806
and this is the "manage rewards" page. The automatic preference is "receive $5 every month", but setting it to stockpile will allow them to not touch anything
>>340537774
Nope I live in Washington state. I have two near me that I can go to. I also go to conventions and stuff to get games as well.
>>340537774
Check around, you'll be surprised where you can find retro shops. I live on east coast VA, and you can find retro shops many places around here, not just in VA Beach.
>>340537774
I live in SE Michigan and there is literally 3 different retro game stores in driving distance of my house. Google is your friend.
>>340538161
Weired, I checked after I saw this thread and it had it on stockpile, like nothing's changed
I just sent an email to them to try and get my points back, we'll see what happens. Would love to call the corporate, but couldn't find a number.
>>340538161
Thanks for this man now i can save and stuff.
>>340537104
so straight on surveys for points? any other methods you use to get points quickly?
>>340534641
I can't believe people still go there. I just can't. You can get day 1 games cheaper on Amazon, even used is at least the same price, usually lower.
There is objectively 0 reason to go into a cramped store with spergs and get pressured unless you identify with Motorhead t-shirt wearing neckbeards.
>>340539760
you act like im there trying on games in a fitting room
>>340539672
>any other methods you use to get points quickly?
Everything that isn't watching a 1 minute video for 10 points requires you making a purchase or donation first before you get a higher amount, so no.
Also, the surveys I fill out aren't from their site.
>>340539760
Completely this. I've had two great GameStops in my life, but one got rid of all of their cool and nice employees and the other merged with a classically shitty GameStop. Since the second instance I just completely switched to Amazon.
>>340540235
so like what site man? hook a brother up!
>>340539760
>people haven't realized this by now
>you can literally get games at LEAST $15-$20 cheaper the week of release on Amazon used
>>340539760
Even with prime most things are 2-day shipping, I'd rather get points for a cupon I might use and I'd rather deal with them than the old guy with a lazy eye
I don't know what is it with gamestop story threads but the employees don't pressure me nearly as much as /v/ says they do, and when they do it's only for games I specifically asked for release date of
>Me and my brother go in to local gamestop one day
>Brother is about as normalfag as it gets
>Him not knowing new trailer came out for Advanced Warfare?came out
>Asks me what it's about
>I say it's a remake of Deus Ex
>Both guys at the counter start snickering while my brother has this puzzled look on his face
>>340540741
>I'd rather get points for a cupon I might use
>10 points for each dollar, 20 if it's GameStop levels of "used"
>lowest point value coupon is 4,000 points to get $5 off a pre-owned, in-store item
You could just buy cheaper elsewhere and save money instead.
>>340541103
$5 off for every 5000 points, 10points for every 1$,
that's $1 off for every 100 $100s speant, it's a 1% back system.
Nobody asked for the math, but interesting if you think of it
>>340541103
>>340541317
>>10 points for each dollar
I never knew it was that low what the fuck
I'm finding it a little hard to believe I can find day 1 games cheaper on amazon, especially 3DS games that have limited stock on special editions
>>340534641
>have just over 50 ameribucks worth of points saved up
>suddenly get an email
>Thanks for spending your points for a 50 dollar coupon!
>wat
>some faggot got into my account and stole my points
>send support email, call the hotline
>both end with nothing
And that's the last time I did anything remotely involving cuckstop.
>>340539760
>You can get day 1 games cheaper on Amazon
If you pay for prime.
>Even used
But you pay for shipping.
>0 reason to go to a store
I mean, besides walking out with the shit i wanted in the same day.
