That literally is the main game with triangles painted over it. Just like how the VR missions in MGS are the main game with cubes painted over it. It's a way for level designers to go wild without needing to worry about asset constraints, story justification or it being too hard for play testers.

Besides it is a good way to judge the depth of core mechanics. If they feel what they have implemented is robust enough to do a challenge mode it can't be all bad.
