The voice channel does require a download, and the whole point is that people use discord when other (integrated) voice channels are available.

From a standpoint of an average Joe (like most of us, frankly) Discord is a godsend. Free dedicated servers. I have no idea what internet wizardry they are having over there, but I have no idea how it works and how they can afford to deliver it for free.
Now from the standpoint of privacy, it's a disaster. Discord has the same telemetry features Windows 10 has. It has its processes running deep in the background and gathers shit. What shit? I don't know, I am not a tech expert. The guy behind the company who made Discord is fishy as fuck and so is his past.

Overwatch runs a game engine with Lightning, physics, partial effect engines thus in my post I was comparing these parts of a games engine to a service on a server
Thus the VoIP in game is part of the OW services and may have had QoS due to the fact the game will ditch the VoIP quality for the other important services thus:

Discord is great because it connects people from different games,groups, and guilds. The programs is pretty great compared to the other ones I have used.
Alot of the people from my discord channels come from Ragnarok Online and it has made networking new friends easier. If you have friends dont be a pussy just login discord and hear what they have to say even if it doesnt improve your match quality sometimes its the fun and silly moments that you will always remember.

It traded general functionality and I just couldn't take it anymore.
