Not sure what you're talking about. Nobody played this game in the first place.

It does seem all the MOBA are slowly declining at the moment.

Overwatch is literally the first good game Blizzard has made in it's entire existence.

That's what happens to Neo-Blizzard games once the pretty and shiny exterior can't mask anymore how empty of a shell the game is.
I'm waiting the same to happens to Overwatch. It's basically HOTS in 3D with guns.
>>
>>340514070
Yup. LoL got rid of Dominion a few months ago, so now they have fewer maps now than when they did in the later half of 2011.

i said this literally two hours into playing the overshill open beta, despite me going into it with an open mind hoping it'd be semi-decent

it's riddled with the same poor design choices and character abilities. everyone has the depth of a paddling pool and feel incredibly underwhelming to play

>>340514231

>>
>>340513281
It never stood a chance, the moba market is too saturated and everyone that plays them is loyal to their moba. Hots was a watered down moba so it had no appeal besides the blizzard IP.

They learned from their mistakes as you can see with hearthstone and overwatch. They take a dying or untapped game and breathe new life into it and get the masses hyped for something they otherwise wouldn't play IE online card games and arena shooters.

More people will play blizzard games regardless of what they are because blizzard is one of the few gaming companies that has kept a mostly positive reputation.
>>
>>340515425
>learned from their mistakes
>Overwatch
Are you kidding? OW is just like HOTS. Both games are incredibly bland and shallow. Right now OW is in its honeymoon phase and everybody is too busy looking at the waifus to realize how empty the game actually is but once they do I'm betting OW is going to start bleeding players just as fast.
>>
>>340513281
Game has zero strategic depth and very low skillcap. It's basically the baby-tier MOBA.
>>
>>340516174
Stop talking bad about LoL
>>
>>340516213
lmao LOL is bad but compared to HOTS it's a fucking masterpiece with the depth of an ocean.
>>
>>340516174
It might have a low skillcap but the strategic depth is very much still there, the only way you could think it has no depth would be if you are too bad at the game to even realise that.
>>
>>340516174
Blizzard started adopting a mantra of easy to play hard to master, they kept spewing that while talking bout hots.

They tend to forget their past best selling games are not that easy to play and that their newest games are far too easy to master
>>
Overwatch is the hip Blizzard game now. Heroes of the Storm never really caught on anyway.
>>
I don't know how other LoL/Dota plays but Hots is good enough for me and I like the responsiveness and how the hero handles + how fast paced the game is
>>
>>340516496
I have not seen a hard to master game from Blizzard since SC2 desu

Blizzard doesn't support their own games
Why did LoL become popular? Riot got a credit and made the first tournament reward 500k or something.

There's almost no support from Blizzards side for this game. Even the official road to Blizzcon tournaments were just "sponsored" by Blizzard and held by some literally who's.

I'm gonna assume the same is going to happen with Overwatch. For some reason Blizzard just doesn't know how to promote a game for competitive scene. They probably think it just happens on it's own like it did with Hearthstone
>>
Their games are too shallow to be competitive. It's like they have completely forgotten how to make a meaningful and durable gameplay.
>>
>>340517524
There is no way OW is going to really catch on competitively. It is way too frantic to watch. HOTS is the pro gamer retirement home, it will catch on in time as more people are too old to compete in other games. The game has the potential for 40 year old pro players its so easy. Somewhat decent to watch if the casters are good.
>>
>>340514631

Whoever decided to remove the few alternative maps they had is an idiot. It's like they want to kill their game.

You know that games such as Dota and LoL just took over counter-intuitive decisions from Warcraft 3 that were actually flaws, right?

The only reason the original Dota mod used items for all it's shit was because that was the only way to do it.

Dota 2 especially is overcomplicated. And by that i don't mean that the mechanics are hard to grasp or anything, but you have an incredibly complex game in which 10000 new possible scenarios pop up every second and you have to coordinate it among 5 team mates, and we know that words can't properly convey what we think. On top of that you compete against another 5 man team who are facing the same complexities. And no two Dota matches (or any MOBA for that matter) are played by the same rules. The heroes are different, you don't have your pawns, your king and your queen in every game. Noone will EVER master a game like Dota. It's like chess in realtime without tiles.
Even the best of pros haven't even mastered 40% of the game.

Heroes of the Storm is far more conveniently designed and it's not a bad thing like people are claiming. Everytime i see criticism of HOTS it's just "LOL FUCKING NOOBS WHO CAN'T PLAY THE REAL GAME EKSDEE"

When people say DOTA is complex and deep, they mostly just talk about fucking elitism
>>
Overwatch killed the MOBA scene.
>>
>>340518821
But Dominion was removed because only a few thousand people of their playerbase of hundreds of millions ever played it. It just wasn't worth the effort of balancing anymore.
>>
>>340514015
?

dominion was shit m8
>>
>>340518821
it got removed specifically because literally nobody fucking played it
>>
>>340519119
DOTA's complexities are its biggest draw and the greatest barrier for entry.

If a game were to streamline itemization and farm but maintain the complex roster and item and levelling options it'd be killer.

HOTS feels very shallow in terms of options and individual impact in a game.

>>340519119

>>
>>340517524
Are you legit retarded? The only big tournaments Blizz shit games have are at Blizzcon fucking drone.
>>
>>340513281
What surprised me when I played HOTS is how quickly I got bored of the game. It lasted basically 3 days and started to grow increasingly bland and stale. I can't really put my finger on it but it's just not rewarding at all to play.
>>
>>340520538
Nice counterargument, mouthbreather
>>
HotS was alive? Funny.
Meanwhile Dota 2 is bigger than ever.
>>
>>340520737
100% objective based and doesn't reward kills enough

only fun part of MOBAs are outplaying people and getting kills
>>
>>340520381
I agree that unfortunately the heroes themselves in HOTS are very boring in terms of design.

Every character seems to have the same toolkit, some skillshot, some skillshot CC, some boring Ult.

Recently, however Medivh was announced and it looks like he's going to be the first hero with actual interesting design. I guess once you run out of basic ideas you're FORCED to get more creative. But yeah, overall HOTS fails at hero design.
>>
>>340513281
They can still save it when they implement individual exp, items and lasthitting/deny.
>>
>>340514081

I too, was always under the impression that HOTS is a fucking dead game, but whenever they upload a YouTube video about a new hero it quickly racks up 600k+ views.

To put that into perspective, LoL champion announcement videos get about 2.5 million views, with a playerbase of over 40 million

I'm pretty sure Heroes of the Storm is actually quite alive, i mean after all they're releasing frequent updates.
>>
>>340521427
Blizzard dumping money into something doesn't mean shit. It's damage control of the highest caliber.

DC Universe Online still gets updates.
>>
>>340519119
>The only reason the original Dota mod used items for all it's shit was because that was the only way to do it.
If it didn't use items you'd be having angel arena. And I don't see angel arena spinoffs anywhere.
Warlocks on the other hand was an interesting custom map. Shame the guys that were porting it to actual game never delivered.

Dota 2 is still at the same level or gaining. Plus new hot drama keeps the scene worth keeping up with
>>

yeah, because EVERY wc3 custom map had items right? i mean, its not like there were custom maps in wc2 or anything.

ahahaa, nah ur just a faggot tho pham.

>For some reason Blizzard just doesn't know how to promote a game for competitive scene

Do you really think that Blizzard gives a shit about eSports?

They care about marketing and literal retards paying 40-60 bucks for a shiny turd that will flop in 2 months.

They already cashed the money.

e-sports are a money maker and blizzard are massive jews, so yes

also they bought MLG, what the fuck are they going to do with that?
>>
>>340522060
>Do you really think that Blizzard gives a shit about eSports?
They gave enough of a shit during SC2 release to completely rape the BW scene and ruin the RTS genre forever.
>>
>>340514259
Low impact spells with pea shooter auto attacks throughout the whole game. Shitty maps.

They need to revamp the game if they want it to be fun. I only play now if I feel like completely turning off my brain.

EG and Secret are flip flopping again. Universe and Zai to EG, Bulba to Secret

>late 2014, RTZ and Zai leave for Secret
>EG win DAC
>Secret win a bunch of tournaments
>EG win TI 2015
>EG kick a winner and get RTZ. Zai leaves Secret for school. Leaves for a whole year till now

>Late 2015 RTZ and Universe leave EG for Secret. EG get Aui back and Bulba
>Both teams get absolutely BLOW THE FUCK OUT
>EG kick Aui, get Universe and Zai again
>Secret are left with picking up Bulba from EG

Its the best kind of drama.
>>
>>340522253
>>340522261
eSports is not a safe bet because other game will replace Overmeme in no time.
SC2 gives them enough money and recognition already.

That's why they charge 40 for Overwatch and the reason for them to implement microtansactions.
>>
Hots was just a side project anyway
