I think the story mode was the best story mode from a fighting game(low bar) and there's a lot less bullshit compared to Signs story though there are still some cheap asspulls. By the end all character arcs and subplots were neatly tied up despite the Bedman vs the assassins subplot lasting for far too long. The animations are godawful and worse than RWBY, not to mention the bugs like characters just fuzing with each other in the background and mouths not moving when speaking. For some strange reason characters in the game like Jam and Dizzy are barely in the story while Zappa and Roboky had such an important role in the story. The character who deserves to be in the game is the villain Ariel since she was amazing, everytime she had screentime she owned the scene. The best thing about the story is that there are calm moments,unlike Netherealms games where the story is all action all the time. In Revelator there are lots of scenes where people just sit down have talk with some pretty decent dialogue hell there's a nice scene where 2 guys are just walking through the desert, there are several fighters who don't even fight.
It's nowhere good enough to be the main reason to get the game but I can only hope that the story mode SFV and Injustice 2 will be just as good but have way better animation.

Network lag and input lag are different things.
Of course they add up, but offline in GG you have 4 frames of lag and 8 frames of lag in SFV. Display lag and controller lag also add up to it.
But if you are used to doing some hard loops and combos in GG offline or with 2-3 fames of network lag, it's hard to adjust to additional 2-3 frames.

The pacing is horrible, especially the first half is just people talking for way too long about a bunch of stuff that doesn't even matter. Like the first scene with Zappa and the hacker is way too long for what's necessary to know (That they're checking for paranormal stuff and the foreshadowing with the hacker), the whole thing with the cute girl and the bet is unnecessary. And if it was just one scene it'd be fine but all the scenes have fluff discussions like this.
Sometimes they show a discussion where they want to do a "This character says something which makes the other character make a decision" which is fine but then they think that's too short and make them discuss three different irrelevant topics before getting to the point (Worst offender being the discussion between Kum and Jam, way too much wasted time).
They do the "It looks like the heroes will lose but an ally comes in at the last second to block the attack!" at least ten times during the story and it gets old as fuck. Ironically the only time they do it right is that last one with Axl because it actually serves a purpose to the story and isn't just there to create some false suspense.
I thought the way they tried to redeem every single villains in the series was seriously really stupid.
Everything about That Man (his reveal, his purpose) feels fucking stupid to me.
It's not all bad tough
It does close-up a lot of loose-end from the old games. Tough at the same time it's kind of sad because it feels like the series is ending.
Ariels was an interesting character, altough she got more and more chuuni as the story went on.
The scene with Bedman, Venom and Robo-ky is really good. The action is decent, there's character development and it makes you want to see the next game to see what happens to those characters. I think it's my favorite part of the story.
The last scene with Axl is 10/10, a real human bean, my eyes actually got watery.
