This game is pure RNG, you literally have to restart until you have a favorable situation in order to proceed.
Progress is meaningless, at any given second the game can screw you over just because and you'll lose everything.

The slimes are insane the first levels or so.
You need acid-proof materials for your weapons and armor, otherwise they will just melt.
Also drop anything you don't need to have on you in your home.
The wiki is your best friend, when playing this game.

Acquire a new set of gear. I'd recommend you go into the Puppy cave and leave a few dozen times, as it's randomly generated. Go into it until you see a weapon on the ground, pick it up, and leave, killing maybe some putits or chickens or other weaklings. Don't fight anything serious yet.
Get new armor as well. I'd advise you avoid anything with brown coloration, bevause Bronze gear is almost univerally garbage. Silver is typically solid. If it's Blue, it's Glass, and it means your speed will increase if it's equipped, but they usually aren't all that powerful.
Point is, ditch your present, shitty set. Get a new one. When you acquire gear, walk around until your character gets a vague assumption of ehat the item is. If it says "Spooky" or "Scary", drop it immediately. It's cursed, and it's a pain dealing with cursed gear in the earlygame.

Considering you have to level up each spell individually, end game basically being pet farming: the game, basic dungeon grinding, missing an event by a day making you have to wait an entire year to do it again, the multitudes of things you need to upgrade in the game and how you go about upgrading them including the % modifier you need to increase to actually get anywhere quickly... yes I'd say there's a fuckload of grinding anon.

Stop going in there for now. That's a good source of early gear, but those Slimes will kill the shit out of you over and over again unless you fire breathe or have cone damage spells.
I'd advise you go do the quest with the bandits in the cellar first.

Drink literally every potion and read literally every scroll you acquire with a generic name. Knowing which ones you will later see in a dungeon later is absolutely a must to acquire early in the game, because you don'g want to accidentally curse your valuable gear thinking you might have stumbled upon a Blessed Enchant Weapon Scr8ll when it's just a Blessed Curse Scroll. Same with being in a fight and drinking sulfiric acid praying it's a potion of cure wounds. Killing yourself early has little to no lasting consequences. Being prepared for lategame is insanely more valuable and relevant.

There's a time limit for ingame things but the overall game doesn't have a time limit or set gameover other than "don't die to ether disease".

Here's the thing with dungeons.
The level of the dungeon is pretty much the top floor only.
The bottom floor of a dungeon will be a few levels higher than that.

OP. What you need to do is learn 2 farm/cook. Once you unlock those skills, go to the farming community and do all the farming quests for mad dosh and plats. Use your dosh to buy some juere infantry slaves and hook them up with some crossbows (they should have innate poison, you are playing elona+ right?). Your posse should be strong enough to wipe up the first few floors of puppy cave at that point.

you can choose permadeath as an option to modify your final score like how most roguelikes tally your score on death
the fun is in the grind because its a jrpg/RL hybrid
some dude managed to managed to gene-engineer 14 ARMS on his build
he had to do a fuckton of grinding on his dual wield skill to offset the dual wield penalty which stacks everytime he gets a new arm
but of course the reward is he can manage to land 14 hits on a single target in 1 move probably even more with insane speed

Be careful. Don't be a murder hobo like in your other RPG games.
Whoring yourself out is good early on. Buy stuff from a shopkeeper, then give them some alcohol, talk to them again and let them buy you over and over to get your money back. You can be a girl and do this with a female shopkeeper if you want to remain pure.
For starters, you can just make a goal to get some small property, like a museum, shop, and small shack. Farming can be rewarding too.

Well thanks a fucking lot, now I got a hankering to play it.
Used to play quite a bit. Booted up my save to check in, fairy farmer with 316 farming skill (mostly played around 1.18 - 1.20 Plus). I should start playing again, need to start gene engineering my pets, haven't even finished 2nd continent despite 200+ hrs played. I hope they buffed DV, can't gather PV for shit as a fairy.
