>you will never have even half the autism this guy has
>you're pretty autistic yourself
>>
>>340495918
its not really autism, the guy is probably just using the game as scientific practice. for example, when you are programming you want to find a use for what youve learned to help you remember it and find new applications for it. what better to dissect than an early 3d game you enjoy?
>>
>>340496167
Anon, when we say 'autism' on /v/, we don't mean actual literal autism.
>>
>>340494693
this is boring, RIP
>>
>>340496286
i know what it used to be, but now im just not sure
>>
He needs to talk in his videos. The ones with text instead of speech are boring. His best video has speech. Why did he stop talking? It's not the same.
>>
>>340494693
>there are 65536 angle units in SM64
>but there aren't really, there are 65536 / 16, because of how the angle table truncates the angles
How does he figure this all out? Relentless testing?
>>
>>340496612
He didn't "stop." This is his alternate channel, which only has videos deliberately done with text only instead of speech because they're easier to make and upload quickly.
>>
>>340496972
Probably binary.
65536 is 16 bits and 4096 is 12
>>
>>340497902
>>340496972
Scratch that. Every angle is stored in a look up table in memory. All he had to do was look at the table.

It's really quite astounding how much of this guy's life has been dedicated to understanding every single minutia of the nuances of the mechanics at work in the gameplay in Super Mario 64. I don't think I care about anything as much as Pannenkeok cares about this game.
>>
>>340498053
Oh, didn't realize he said the table is in memory.
>>
>>340494693
I wish this guy would do more commentated videos, these ones with text are alright but the commentated ones are great.
>>
>you will never have such a deep love and understanding of a game as this guy
>>
>>340494693

Does this guy study computer science or is he just an autist?

He could try to make a Sm64 clone with all of the knowledge he has.
>>
>>340499362
I have that understanding of Dark Souls though
>>
>>340499448
I'm pretty sure he has background in computer science. SethBling is another guy with CS background, but he speedruns Super Mario World.
>>
>>340499448
He is too well spoken to have the auts. One of the key things about autism/aspergers is shit communication skills, he is way to good at explaining and getting his points across.
>>
>>340499748
>One of the key things about autism/aspergers is shit communication skills
That's for conversation. Autistics can give coherent monologues.
>>
>>340499748
Well, look at Sheldon from BBT who apparently has got autism. They lack empathy but can be eloquent nonetheless.
>>
>>340500023
>implying the writers of that show actually know anything about autism
>>
>>340500023
Notice his lack of understanding of social cues and mannerisms, though. They might be eloquent, but not always about the right things or at the right time.
>>

This is bullshit. Not understanding social cues its different from comprehending emotion or caring about others.

As an actual autist, I'm getting a kick out of this thread.
>>
>>340499748
I know a really well spoken autist in real life. He's a really great speaker, but he just doesn't understand people and will go on and on when people are not interested or will just speak in a needlessly complex way that you don't see in everyday conversations.

I don't think he meant speaking well as in speaking without stuttering or whatever. He means relaying information efficiently to others, which autists have a hard time doing because others have a different way of thinking.

I'd rather actually play Mario 64 than watch a video about it. 20 years old and still shits on pretty much any platformer out there.
>>
>>340505901
3d platformer, maybe. but i think crash wins at that because there are actually platforms. it plays quite like a 3d donkey kong country. sayonara umihara kawase is also a great 3d platformer

regardless his videos are generally very interesting and offer something you are very likely not going to get from simply playing the game
>>
>>340494693
Legit question. What's the point of putting so much time and effort on this, a -soon to be- 20 years old game?
>>
Can we not accuse that a guy has a hobby of going really in-depth into something is because he enjoys it of having fucking autism?

"haha, you put a lot of effort into something i don't consider to be very important or interesting, you must have brain problems".

Back in my day we'd just call them nerds and be done with it. None of this amateur psychologist bullshit.
>>
>>340507654
Because he thinks it's fun.

I know that fun is a foreign concept on /v/ but please try to understand.

>Back in my day we'd just call them nerds and be done with it. None of this amateur psychologist bullshit.
Autism is the new 4chan nerd anon
>>
>>340507654
It's a hobby.

The same could be said for modern day blacksmiths. We don't need swords or chainmail these days.
>>
>>340508478
No, but we need horseshoes and minor things. In that sense blacksmiths are pretty much the same as ever.

Super Mario 64:
65536 angles

Super Mario 3d world:
8 angles

What went wrong?

No you fucking idiot, watch the video, he explains they are rounded down to multiples of 16, so there are effectively 4096 angles.

the dude probably just studies comp sci. None of his videos would be autistic at all if he, you know, studies or works on this shit, and can easily, without effort, apply it to mario 64.

The music in SM64 is so bad it makes me want to kill myself.
>>
>>340500460
Autism is literally psychopathy without the social awareness. They are devoid of empathy and don't recognise other humans as having lives of their own.
In essence they believe that their thoughts are the only ones in the universe.
>>
>>340499448
He studied maths and is a maths teacher. He is used to explaining things to children.
>>
STEP ONE... REPRODUCE THE GLITCH
>>
>>340513560
What kind of bizarre fucking severe meme autism are you talking about? Cuz I'm an autist and I'm pretty fucking sure that other people aren't all just mindless automatons.
>>
>>340513351
Kill yourself then.
>>
>>340516716
Yeah but you are, you might think you're not but you don't behave like normal humans. You only imitate them.
>>
>>340501348
I can't think of any as entertaining as this but commentated glitched speedruns of early Pokemon games can be really fascinating, they go into some detail as to how the glitches they use to manipulate item/pokemon/location etc. data work in terms of coding.
>>
>>340494693
Interesting to see what they did before Quaternions were the standard. The idea of an "angle table" to reduce computation just exemplifies the "art from adversity" that is present in these low tier games. Modern games take so many short cuts because the processing power is so immense.

I would honestly take a class on this game if it were offered in college.
>>
YOU FAGS ARE GOING TO STOP RIGHT NOW AMF EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT A PARALLEL UNIVERSE IS

are there really seemingly infinite invisible level maps with no walls or moving objects evenly spaced between the level map you're always on?
>>
A great video show to the cucks who say garbage like "Analog 3d control suddenly allowed for INFINITE angles!"

No, it never did.
>>
>>340517149
It's just a fancy way of saying "the collision data is looping"
>>
>>340516964
i think you're the autistic one here
>>
>>340517149
it's just discrepancy between map collision and actual placement of map models and materials
>>
>>340501348
There was a FF3 NES run at one of the GDQ events that used a lot of neat glitches to force key items into the inventory through advancing items along the tables in memory (that is, by obtaining an item located close to another item's memory address he could turn it into that item eventually)
>>
>>340517149
No, if you listen to the explanation BUT FIRST man gives in his video he makes it very clear how it works, and that "parallel universe" is a somewhat misleading term for it.
It's not so much that there actually exist infinite copies of the level, but rather that the way the game calculates Mario's position makes it possible to "trick" the game into thinking his position is different from his actual position, causing the game to behave as though there were infinite copies of the level in all directions.
Basically the idea is that Mario is out of bounds, but the game acts as though he's in bounds for purposes of determining collision with geometry.

I'm not really sure how to explain it very eloquently to be honest, but if you pay attention to the video it becomes very easy to understand how it works.

Today nerd mean a person who has played CoD and Skyrim.

If you are more hardcore than that you are labelled autistic by normies.
