Why did Dirty Bomb die but Overwatch survive?
>>
>>340486345
marketing, timing, and porn.
>>
>>340486345
No advertising, shit Feb dev support.
>>
Because it has a loading screen for a loading screen while it loads the loading screen
>>
one had a gigantic marketing campaign

the other didn't
>>
Dirty Bomb is really dead?
>>
>>340486345
Marketing, and Dirty Bomb was a huge mess on release. Rampant hacking that took too long to address.
>>
>>340486345
doesn't have the same visual pop as overwatch
purely from a visuals standpoint it doesn't stand out as much as overwatch
>>
>>340486345

>Poorly optimized
>Zero marketing
>Grind for random load outs
>Grind for mercs as well
>Dev support is trashcan

It could have been great, but there was no money put into marketing and it didn't stand out among the other F2P games on Steam at the time.
>>
Its far from dead, its been able to maintain a 4-5k daily peak for about a year now. If they add a few more maps along with characters like Turtle and actually "release" it with a decent marketing campaign they could easily bring that number up.

>Its far from dead, its been able to maintain a 4-5k daily peak for about a year now

Son...
>>
>>340486345
It sold itself as being an heir to Wolf:ET gameplay. It was not that but instead filled with grind/pay to unlock everything. While still having team/map sizes similar to Overwatch(small).

>4-5k

It dropped to 1k with the Overwatch release and it keeps going down.

I don't think you understand what dead means. Even the worst performing f2p games like SMNC managed to keep support for like a year with a playerbase of 1000

Does the success of a game really depend upon advertising? Do you honestly believe this /v/?

Or was it because of the rampant hacking and disgusting in-game cash methods?
>>
>dirty bomb dead
>continues to slowly grow

It was never going to be as big as a AAA title like overwatch, but it has its niche and seems to be doing okay.
>>
>>340487564
Er, what? Your image shows a 4k peak today. Are you retarded anon?
>>
>>340488013
doesnt have to be only 1 of those
>>
>>340486345
Who remembers that game where you transform into a Wolf and it is an FPS?
>>
Tying loadouts to microtransactions in addition to hero unlocks was bullshit.
>>
>>340486345

Dirty Bomb died when the aimbots got perfected and spread everywhere and the mods did nothing about it forever.

They didn't know who their target audience was and neither did anyone else.

The card system was a really bad way of doing unlocks.

From a pure gameplay perspective though, it's a straight upgrade to Overwatch.
>>
>>340486345
People actually play Overwatch.

Yes.
Here is what happens when a new company releases its first game, with no advertising.
>>
>>340488352
What's wrong with that ad?

yes.
some of the worse failures i've played sold millions because of the hype generated only by injected millions in advertising skyrim/call of duty past mw2 are probably the best examples of this - create a bad product and shove money at it and eventually it will generate revenue
so yeah
>>
it's not dead
stable player base for almost a year
>>
>>340486345
Post again when Overwatch is as old as dirty bomb is now. Overwatch will die down.
>>
>>340488902
>>340488818
That's pretty sad. I thought the internet has made advertising pretty moot. Those interested in video games will see it sooner or later.
>>
Overwatch is only successful because of two things:

1. The artstyle; and

2. The reliability of the developer (Blizzard).

Then again the huge price point wasn't a barrier.
>>
>>340486345
>not all mercs are available from the start
Probably one of the reasons it died out
>>
>>340489114
When something small does succeed without advertising there's often some memetic force behind it.
There was supposed to be a "WTF is Ring Runner?" video by that well known "WTF is" channel, which could have saved the game's population, but somehow that didn't end up happening.
>>
>>340488013
Depends on the game being good and then their ability to remove hackers.
>>
>>340488013

nearly everything relies on advertising

you could have made the best game ever but if no one knows about it then it's going to flop

blizzard has the added bonus of being blizzard, so people will buy their game regardless
>>
>>340488885
Who is it aimed at, anon?
>>
>>340489635
It's just showcasing the game to whoever likes tactical FPS games
>>
>>340489635
The deadpool audience.

Proxy best waifu by the way.
