Yeah it's awful if you're trash at it. The only bad part about it is the cut-content and unskippable cutscenes. It's super playable, fun, and has crazy replay value because you unlock awesome cheats after you beat the game.

You can play as any character from the game after you beat the main campaign, and many of them have a unique moveset.
The community has modded several other characters with unique movesets, such as pic related, the Major from GiTS, Samus, OC donutsteels.
You can also change the outfit of the main female character.
