They run on a minimal risk policy.
All Blizzard games are just an exercise in extreme polishing, cuttting fat and marketing, They take something proven, tighten it to the max, then release it and push it.
You can see that when Blizzard tries to be original and push it's own ideas it usually falls flat on its face (eg. d3 auction house)
The only truly innovative thing they did was starcraft as it really introduced new elements to RTS no one had thought before and everyone copied them.
