They were just good to fuck around in, 1 was somewhat unoriginal feeling, but 2 let you do just about anything you wanted. You couldn't even change different layers of clothing in SR3.

It was good enough at the time, albeit somewhat mediocre. Compared to the trainwreck and disappointment 3 was, it's pretty good.
I loved 3, played it to death. 4 Was also really fun, played it a bunch and then did it again with a friend.
The car summoning was broken as fuck and I loved it, just spawn in a tank during survival side missions if you get tired of having fun.
Gat out of hell was amazing, I loved the flying stuff.
All around fun games to play if you like playing games to have fun
