Post your levels and have others play yours
>>
These threads usually die quick, but if this one picks up I'll happily try anyone's levels. As a warning, though, I can be a bit of a shitter.

Shillan the last 3 levels in my "mSMB3" series:

>1-5 Cog Climb Castle

>1-6 Mega Mole Mountain

>1-7 Sky High Snake

Bookmarked all of them
I'll post mine in a bit
I have to organize my notepad of levels

I usually don't post in these threads if I can't play other people's levels right away, but if it helps to keep the thread going, I could post a couple of levels. If people play my levels in these threads, I always return the favor but sometimes it might take a couple of days or even a week until I get to do so.

>>Underground Spiny Area
>https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/332C-0000-0137-9B46
Played these, I feel you over-use enemies a bit instead of focusing on platforming. Also seemed a little lacking in coins and general secrets/rewards. Generally, I recommend people to save areas with many enemies for bonuses or alternative routes with rewards, as an entire level like that can be tiring to play.
>>
>>340456686
Well I did make those the first day I had it
Most I could do in the secrets department was hide some power ups in blocks if you really looked for them
>>
>>340457024
I did find a couple fireflowers in the underground level, you could still update the levels, though.
>>
>>340457168
How about the star in the underground level?
>>
What goes into a good water level? The 2-1 of my Kirby series just is not turning out right at all, I'm frankly just about ready to scrap the original for underground and change it from "Chilly Canal" to "Chilly Cave."

Will be going through this thread for levels now
>>
>>340457437
Didn't find a star. To be honest the constant hazards made me keep going forward instead of really look around, which is why I advised against constant enemies like that really. Some downtime is a good thing if you ask me, let the player breathe a bit
>>
Bump will have some levels in a bit
>>
>>340453343
Gave a go (but didn't compete) most levels listed that you'd made, and I feel your level design principles in general could use some work, frequently I felt the levels were bordering on frustrating rather than fun or satisfying. Keep in mind this does not at all mean they're too hard, more that there's too much unrelated challenge going on at once. You also use bob-ombs a lot, it seems, and it gets annoying as they slow down player progress making all your levels awful for speedrunners.

I'm no game designer either, though, I'm just a little more of the mentality that levels should try to cater to as many needs as possible. Obviously, some levels have the intent of being a rush, or very hard/very easy, or being exploration-based: I got the impressions yours didn't achieve anything in particular, though. I think you need to find your design style and stick to it; come up with a clearer structure and themes for your levels, especially mechanically speaking. Just my 2 cents
>>
And delivering, bookmarking 3 levels from each of the giant lists posted, will get to them eventually

>Happy Haunted Fields
https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/9812-0000-0249-E38E
Mismatched theme, not that difficult. Has some secrets to be found

>Borb's Quest
https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/2C16-0000-023A-0CED
A basic castle level with a paint of Kirby in it.

>>340453343
I remember playing through Bowser's Home and being very confused about the general theme. Felt more like a red coin hunt than a "raid bowser" level. Bowser Jr's room was cute
>>
>Had this game since release day
>Still can't bring myself to upload a level

Anyone else in the same boat? I just boot up this game to play other's levels. Every time I make my own, all I end up doing is make silly enemy contraptions or levels that feel unsatisfying.
>>
>>340461591
>Happy Haunted Fields
I was a little confused at first by the fairly open design and how most areas through warp-pipes appear to be optional but ended up having decent fun with this level. Almost feels like it could be a legitimate mario level, it'd just need a bit of tweaking to avoid it feeling so aimless for the first half or so. Also, maybe it's because I didn't really hunt for the secrets, but the boot felt underused to me.

>>340462540
Try checking out the artbook and manual, it actually has a few great level-making tips hidden in there. The manual specifically has some literal tips for making good mario levels.
>>
>>340461591
A huge chunk of it was supposed to be like finding your way through the castle and find this one room full of treasure
I think I got so into Doom at that point that I ended up making it like that in a way

>>340461163
I tend to make complex levels that have a bunch of hidden things in them
I tend to do a bunch of shit while playing other peoples levels and find shit that probably shouldn't be done so I guess that influences my levels. I'm working on a new level and I'm trying to make it have something challenging for people that hunt for shit religiously, but also have a basic route for people that aren't extreme Mario autists like I am.

>I'm working on a new level and I'm trying to make it have something challenging for people that hunt for shit religiously, but also have a basic route for people that aren't extreme Mario autists like I am.
Should turn out well. One thing I've seen many do (and have adopted myself) is having optional red coins that yield a big reward (such as triple 1-ups, a guaranteed star, or entire bonus challenge area). I find this typically increases comments on levels as people will drop a comment in said bonus area to prove they achieved getting there.
>>
>>340462745
Thanks for the advice desu

I've played through 1-5 of your series and liked it, but it felt really short for a castle stage. Unless your campaign has it as sort of a mini tower level like NSMBDS did, but even then those were a bit lengthy.

Feels like the boss fight could have used some more of the cogs gimmick in it too, personally, my idea would be to make the cogs the floor of the fight over lava, but that could be a bit difficult.
>>
>>340463778
That's actually what I'm doing
The hidden stuff isn't really that hidden either since it's right there out in the open
It's really more if you notice it and think about how to hit a block
>>
>>340464509
Yeah 1-5 is stupid short as I ran into the cap of enemy assets I could use (since blocks moving on track counts to that cap). I could have turned the subworld into another castle theme so I could double its length, but I didn't really want to. Plus, you're right in saying that it was intended as a smaller castle type level anyway I think if you're going for the red coins the length is just-about passable, but I'll definitely be re-using the cog gimmick I technically already have for a red coin and big bonus area in 1-6. I plan for a later castle to use the cogs with other mechanics I have in mind.
>>
>>340464809
Alright. I'll try keeping an eye out for you in future threads as I'm following too many people in-game to even know who's who anymore. Shame too few seem to play and feedback on levels now, resulting in threads dying easily.
>>
I wish metroidvania was a tag
I like those kind of levels
>>
>>340465976
I try to leave some kind of feedback when some actually leaves some for mine

I don't consider myself to be a level design expert but the 100 Mario challenge has left a good guideline for what not to do in your level for me

>>340466638
I try my best to give feedback on all levels, but I'm too much of a scrub a lot of the time, that and I don't have the patience if a level frustrates me, even though I prefer challenging levels (just never any kaizo shit).

I don't think I've found more than 5 good levels in 100 mario, let alone anything great.
>>
>>340466750
I knew the reference with the rings in the superman64 course, yet I still didn't get what you were going for in either of these levels. They were ridiculously easy though I felt I wasn't playing them as intended. I don't get it.

Deus Ex Magikoopa Trilogy.jpg

Deus Ex Magikoopa is my action-puzzle series of long courses with a Metroid feel. There are plenty of item generators in each course, so you can retry the sections repeatedly. As long as you have an item equipped, there are no one-hit deaths.

Deus Ex Magikoopa: Check & Point
https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/4E69-0000-00D8-78B4

Deus Ex Magikoopa 2: Fire & Ice
https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/AF76-0000-0115-56D4

Deus Ex Magikoopa 3: Stone & Sky
https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/AD42-0000-01B2-7B55

Check & Point is the most physically demanding of the three. Fire & Ice is the longest and has the most secrets. Stone & Sky has the trickiest puzzle elements.

If you can beat this series, I'll play through your entire profile. I'll also bookmark courses from this thread and will try to get to them by this weekend.

I hope to find some time to make a couple new courses before too long.

My Dr. Feelgood courses each have two different endings, depending on whether or not you save the patient. The pink coins in the second one are an optional expert challenge. Collecting all of them will get you a visit from the Chief of Medicine.

I need to sleep but please continue sharing levels, I'll play try all of them out tomorrow.

Thanks for playing. Beating the Magikoopa series is a pretty serious undertaking, so I can certainly understand wanting to file it away for later.

The Dr. Feelgood series has been so much fun to make. I'm glad that you enjoyed the first one. The second one ramps up the silliness even more. I'm really happy with how the boss chamber turned out.

anyone else getting maintenance error

I'll boot it up in a few minutes to check.

I haven't made a new level in a while, but I'll share an old favorite. This one is called trap tower. It's filled with skewers in a castle, and it's Super Mario World themed. Try it out and see what you think.

Yeah, it looks like server maintenance time. That sucks.

How long does server maintenance usually take?

>>340461591
I drew you a Borb for Borb's Quest, but I can't star it because of server maintenance
>>
>>340473786
If it was planned ahead of time, it might say the expected duration on Nintendo's site. Otherwise, it's anybody's guess.

Shit, well that sucks.
