1) is a respectable piece of hardware for a respectable price
2) either has no gimmick or a gimmick that isn't forced down everyone's throat and doesn't prevent traditional games from being played traditionally
3) has a decent launch window of games that are better than Amiibo Festival and Game & Wario
4) There is a real 3D Mario in the works and not just another NSMB spinoff like 3DW was

I think the Wii U is more of a lesson than a game console. Nintendo just doesn't have it anymore, and my entire experience with the Wii U was sparse and mediocre. I have never used a console less or never had one that got so much uninteresting software.
I think it's a signal for me to move past them and just continue getting other consoles + PC, because I feel as if I could have went without ever experiencing the Wii U and never really missed out on anything. Here's hoping Zelda U is more enjoyable than Skyward Sword, because that's the next time I plan on touching it.
FYI, I was interested in TMS, but the censorship is just too ridiculous to support, and I'm not even one of those nut cases that hates any form of it. They just took it too far, and it only seems to be getting worse.

Wonderful 101 is interesting, but I think its one of Platinum's worst higher budget titles. It plays pretty poorly and overall has a lot of lackluster aspects.

Personally I even enjoy the NSMB games for what they're worth, but it's obvious in terms of quality (and ultimately budget) 3DW has much more in common with NSMB games than it does 64/Sunshine/Galaxy. They even rather look the same, 3DW looks like NSMB in 3D
I enjoyed it but I would not put it in the same series as 64/Sunshine/Galaxy simply because it doesn't even have the same gameplay. It's part of an offshoot that I'd put 3DL in as well, both of which seem like 3D spinoffs of the NSMB series (itself a spinoff of the main series)

There are a lot of level themes that come directly from the NSMB games, like the poison jungle one I think is the biggest offender, but also the rolling hills came directly from NSMB. They're obviously channeling the NSMB games' art direction, not necessarily because they want to but because it's simplistic and cheap.

It was a console shooter first and foremost. The matches were short and game modes barely fleshed out. In terms of weapons choice, it was very uniform all around. It just had nothing to it, you paint walls and eliminate others. It didn't feel skillful or enjoyable, it was a portable game at best in terms of uniqueness and replayability. I heard the updates helped, but last I saw of it, it looked like the same shit with more cosmetics.

Confirmed for having not played it, especially remotely recently. I got it launch week for a great price since I'm not from the US. At launch, it was noticeably lacking in content and felt like forever until ranked battles were made available, but when it happened after that week or so I had a blast - players already had enough time with the game's equivalent of practice mode (turf wars) that ranked battle actually had skill to strive for. There is no way in hell you could tell me that the game doesn't have a high-enough skill ceiling when rank S is such hell to compete in (a stark contrast from the smooth-sailing of turf wars).
The only valid complaint of the game being repetitive that I could agree with is the unnecessary forced rotation, which is why I'll sometimes play with friends instead anyway. The maps themselves and weapon variety is excellent.
