Are you being stupid on purpose? I certainly hope so. Changing some character models is not redoing the entire game engine, story, combat, etc. FFX actually needs massive improvements to the story and sidequests. Which the remaster didn't fix. That's why its called a 'remaster' and not a 'remake'.
Sadly, it doesn't really matter when it comes to remakes. Final Fantasy I-IV all got remakes, but didn't fix what actually needed to be fixed, In fact, FFIII and IV on DS made things worse. And FFVII remake is going to do the same on steroids. Padding out the story over 6 individual games. Yet not fixing any of the problems the story had.

Look up development interviews and diaries concerning FFX's and KH's remasters; Square had to do TONS of assets from scratch, because Japs don't store their original data anywhere.
So yes, in this sense, the games were pretty much re-built from nothing, but they were NOT full-blown "Remakes" as we know them, like Resi's REmake. Thus, they are still mere remasters, with just more work being needed than one would usually consider necessary.
Silent Hill's "HD" "Collection" is perhaps the saddest example of a Jap classic having been butchered because the lack of original data.

Its pretty evident since the main combat engine and graphics engines were retained. As they are exactly the same in the remake. What they most likely lost were the textures and character models. Which they redid, and then claimed it was a remaster. If they had to 'remake the entire game from scratch', then they would have fixed shit like the Chocobo mini game or some really stupid looking animations in cutscenes. Those things were exactly the same as the PS2 game however.

The FF12 remaster trailer sounded pretty good, though. Since the original compositions are pretty much all orchestral, it should transition fine into live-sounding instrumentation. Hopefully they won't actively butcher this one like they did with 7 and 10.

The original FFX had four different composers. Most songs were not done by Uematsu. The best songs were done by the guy who wrote the music for FFXIII. Uematsu actually wrote the Zanarkand theme, which was repeated so many times it became annoying.
